Bruton were surprised and pleased, Tuesday evening, when Mrs. G.. Porter and Mrs. A, Dowson held a very enjoyable "Bridge" and 'Bon Voyage" party for them, before their de- parture next week for Europe. * * * Five members of the Honey- dale W.I. attended the 50th An- niversary Banquet of the Black- stock Women's Institute, held Friday evening, May 14th, in the Christian Education Centre, and report a most enjoyable occasion. Caw- ker * x ¥ The May meeting of the new- ly organized Louise Patterson Handicraft Guild, was held at Mrs. A. Martyn's home, Prince Albert, Friday afternoon and evening, May 14th. 'An inter- esting "Artex" demonstration was the feature of the meeting, Attendance: afternoon--11, ev- ening--17. The June meeting will be held at Mrs. Joe Tripp's, Shirley ,on Wed., June 9th at 2.00 p.m. * * * A Curators meeting for the Women's Institutes of the Dis- trict of Ontario South, was held at the home of Mrs. S. Cawker on Monday, May 17th. Branch Curators and assistants were present from Whitby, Ajax, Al- tona, Claremont, Brougham, Kinsale, Brooklin, Greenbank & Honeydale. The Curator of the Central Ontario Area, Mrs. M. Emerson of Nestleton was also present. * * * On Monday evening 60 Lions and ladies of the Port Perry Club motored to Peterborough to dine and dance at the Fire- side Restaurant, At the conr clusion of dinner Pres. Storey Beare thanked all for coming and introduced the guests of the evening Mr. Terry Evans, Havelock District Governor and Mr. Hank Tamblyn, Lindsay, Deputy District Color, Good food, music and con- gerial 'people made the evening an enjoyable one,' * * * Neil Clark ard Paul Taylor were a part of the Maple Leaf Judo Club of Oshawa represent- ed in the Ontario Judo Tourna- ment held at the Japanese Cul- tural Centre, Toronto, on Sun- day. Fach contestant vied for thc Or'ario Championship in their respective age group Some four hundred entrants, sixteen years and under from all of Ontario competed. Three hun- dred contestants attended last year, thus proving the growing popularity of the sport. Port Perry Council News (Continued) Albert attended the meeting and requested water service for his new home on Victoria St. He also mentioned the pur- chase of other lots for building in the same area. This matter was held over for further discussion and a deci- sion later. Mr. Joseph Franssen met with Council and stated that he is ready to make his deposit for a water main to service his sub- division on Lorne Street, Council felt that this water main on Lorne St., having been approved by the O.W.R.C, would be quite in order, subject to an agreement being drawn up with Mr. Joseph Franssen. The following motions were passed in regard to application for water services: The Cerk was instructed to acknowledge Mr. Joseph C.
