After dinner was partaken of and greetings exchanged, sides were chosen and a game of ball played on the agricultural grounds. At 3 p.m. as all sat around in the park, a program of sports was carried out with the following prize winners: -- Pipe plate race -- Thelma Wright; Paper bag race--Leslie Wright, Cheryl Wright; Three legged race--Leslie Wright and Denise Taylor; Balloon race-- Dianne Taylor, Leslie Wright; Boys race, 7-10--Glenn Beacock and Gordon Beacock; Girls race 7-10 -- Leslie Wright, Cheryl Wright. Prizes were also given: Old- est lady -- Mrs. John Brown, - Elmvale (this prize was donated by Mrs. Delmar Robertson); McCauley, 2nd oldest lady -- Mrs. Edith Beacock, Lindsay; Oldest gent --Mr. John Robertson, Duns- ford; Birthday just prior to pic- nic--Janice McCauley, Midland; Anniversary prior to July 3rd (tie)--Mr. and Mrs. Allan Bea- cock, Nestleton, Mr. and Mrs. J. Strome, Toronto; couple long- est married -- Mr, and Mrs. L. Midland; Couple shortest time married--Mr. and Mrs. B. Reynolds, Willowdale; From the Farthest Distantce-- Sharon Edye, Winnipeg. Same committee were elected for 1966 -- namely: President-- Mr. Thomas Cole, Oshawa; Sec- retary -- Mrs. Lloyd Beacock, Nestleton; Treasurer--Mr. Roy Ferguson, Blackstock. Re-union also to be held in same place, 1st Saturday of July 1966. Friends attended from Tor- onto, Willowdale, Scarboro, Osh- awa, Bowmanville, Omemee, Lindsay, Dunsford, Peterboro, Galt, Elmvale, Orillia, Midland, Brampton, Winnipeg Prince Albert, Nestleton, Blackstock. 13 Attend Ferguson Picnic Wednesday, June 30th, 1965 a 'family re-union of relatives of the Ferguson connection was held at Riverside Park Guelph, at which 79 attended. Two bountiful meals were partaken and a good deal of visiting amongst the oder members was enjoyed. A program of sports was car- ried out during the afternoon. Prizes were awarded the follow- ing: -- RACES-- Children 5 and under--Lorna Ferguson; 8 and under--Judith Mickle; 10 and under--Heather Dorrell; 12 and under -- Ian Ferguson; 3 legged race -- Le- anne and Heather Dorrell; Pap- er stepping -- Leanne Dorrell. As usual children all enjoyed a " Peanut scramble. Nail Driving Contest -- Iris Lossaline; Cothes Pin Handful --Grant Ferguson, Clarence Ferguson conducted two very interesting quizes re the Family Tree and distribut- ed the new book of Tree. Prizes were also given: -- Youngest child--Robby Smith, Brockville; Oldest person pre- sent--Lloyd Taylor, Exeter, 81 years; Having come the Farth- est--Sam Gibson, Edmonton; Largest Family--George Smith, Brockville, Grant Ferguson, Toronto, Dalton Dorrell, Nestle- ton (edch with parents and 4 children). Newly weds--Mau- rice and Jean Love, Exeter; First arrival -- Fred Ferguson, Guelph. In 1925 Mr. Robert J. Fer- guson, a grandson compiled a record of the decendants of the late Samuel Ferguson & Sarah Hooey who were born in the County of Cavan, Ireland. Came to Cavan Township County of Durham in 1822. This book tells the story of their early life in Ontario and has a full line of their descendants. Dur- ing the past year or more Rev. Clarence Ferguson has revised the book, bringing it up to date eary in 1965. There are 1700 known descendants at present.
