6 ~ PORT PERRY STAR, Thurs, November 4th, 1965 Blackstock News By Olga Hill The U.C.W. met in the Chris- tian Education room Tuesday evening, Oct. 26, President Mrs. Kyte opened with a read- ing on different types of wo- men, then turned the meeting over to Mrs, Romeril who after introducing it, was narrator for a play -- "Don't Play the Races To-night Mother". A good number of the members took part in the play which was quite humorous as well as in- formative. Mrs. Ivan Thompson gave the worship which consisted of Hymn, Offeratory, Scripture passage, paper on Gambling & Prayer. President and Secretary took their places and conducted the business period. Mrs. Glenn Larmer explained the Over and Above Gifts and told what is needed this year. Reports were heard from all Units, Secretary, Treasurer, Community, Friend- ship, Parsonage and Board of Stewards representatives. A committee was appointed to meet with committee from Ste- wards re renovation of base- ment and kitchen. Decided to donate $10.00 to the John Milton Society. Agreed to cater to the Rotary Club Rural Night Banquet on Nov. 24th. Closed with Benediction. lunch was served and the 26 ladies present had a social visit. St. John's W.A. met in the Parish Hall Oct. 28th with pre- sident Mrs. Ashmore presiding. Meeting opened with hymn "They who Tread the Path of Labor". Mrs. McArthur gave the Devotional, taking as her theme 'Building with God". President thanked the ladies for co-operation at the chicken- pie supper which was very sue- etessful. Dorcas reported the fall bale sent with new articles valued at $59.75. Plans for the dessert luncheon are well under- way. Meeting closed with prayer, followed by refresh ments, Mr. and Mrs. Neil Malcolm; Mr. & Mrs. Richard VanCamp; Mr. and Mrs. Dalton Dorrell; Mr. Stewart Dorrell; Mr. and Mrs. Allan Beacock; Mrs. Mau- rice Edgerton and Miss Donna Edgerton attended the Ontario Milk Producers Banquet at Maple Grove Thursday evening. Twenty-three ladies of the Blackstock U.C.W. attended the Regional meeting of Oshawa Presbyterial United Church Wo- men in Port Perry United Church Thursday and enjoyed the addresses, also pictures shown by Miss Muriel Stevens of the Congo. Mr. Bert Hooey and Mrs. Russel Lansing, Peterboro were Thursday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Smith, Mrs. Mary Pereman, Colum- bus is convalescing at the home of her daughter Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Hoskin. _ Mesds. Stuart James, Lewis Duvell; Jack Dunn; Howard Pickard, Bowmanville and Mrs, Stan Rahm, were Wednesday dinner guests of Mrs. Cecil Hill, Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Wilkinson, Coboconk and Mr. and Mrs, Bruce Montgomery, Enniskillen were Saturday callers of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Johnston. The students from Milbrook were invited and there was an excellent turnout from both schools. 'Music was sup- plied by a CKLB dise-jockey. Costumes were very original, ranging from dice to penguins. Prizes in the form of records were given out for various dance contests. The lucky win- ners were Judy Swain & Denis McLaughlin, Joan Suggitt and Doug Fallis, and Marguerite Clement and David Long.
