Cream Producers Hold Annual Meeting In Uxbridge The annual meeting of the Ontario County Cream Produce ers' Association was held in the Department of Agriculture Of- fice, "Uxbridge, on Tuesday, October 12,.at 8.00 p.m. Mr. Gordon Taylor, Dairy Supervisor for Ontario County, announced that a Cream Quality Programme was started in Ont- ario County this year. His ser- vices are available to any Dairy Farmer who makes a request. Mr. W. J. Wood, District Di. rector on the Cream Producers' Marketing Board, addressed the meeting, He outlined some of the work that the Cream Pro- ducers' Marketing Board car- ried out during the year. - Mr. Glen Cole, Director on the Cream Producers' Marketing Board, stated that a more ef- fective job had been done this year by the Cream Producers' Association in getting higher returns for Cream Producers. An effective job was also done in advertising dairy products by the Food Service Bureau. The Cream Producers contribute money to this advertising fund each year. He also mentioned the quality programme initiated two years ago by the Cream Produers' Marketing Board at the request of the Cream Pro- ducers' Association. -All other branches of the Dairy Industry are improving quality so it is imperative that the quality of farm separated cream be im- proved also. The consumption of butter is increasing. There is no butter surplus at the pre- sent time. L's Gather For Convention The sixty-third Convention of Central Ontario Area Women's Institutes was held at the Royal York Toronto on November 8, 4, bth. The Theme for the Convention was "Women become a part of to-morrow only as we live to- day". Registration started on Wednesday at 9 o'clock and by Friday 569 women had register- ed. They represent 165 bran- ches with a membership of 4,784. Wednesday evening Mr. An- son Geddes of West Hill gave a very interesting talk about Africa, followed by slides of his trip to Africa. Forensic Clinics for mentally ill persons convicted of criminal offences were requested. The F.W.I.O. will ask the Provincial Govern- ment to set up clinics in Co- operation with the Canadian Medical Association and the Canadian Bar Association. The W. I. also asked the Re- gistrar General forward Birth Certificates to parents at the time of birth. The W.I. also urged early testing of infants blood to detect and treat any Metabolic disorder or imbal- ance which might lead to retar- dation. Rev. W. A. Meet In Ajax Hospital The Ontario County TB and Health Association held its Oct- ober meeting of the Manage- ment Committee at the Ajax and Pickering General Hospital, The reports of various com- mittee chairmen were given. The results of the recent mass tuberculin test and chest x-ray in the southern part of the county are as follows 77,221 persons were examined. 13 in- active and 2 active cases of TB were found, and 276 other di- seases and abnormalities. The latter cases have been referred to the person's own private phy- sician for follow-up. (The nor- thern part of the county will be surveyed in the spring). It was particularly noted that 8 cases of TB have been found in the county since the mass survey -- none having partici- pated in the survey. The TB Association is spon- soring a Baby Sitter's Training Course in the Bay Ridges, Pick- ering area, under the capable leadership of Mrs. Ross W. Shier, Chairman, Health Educa- tion. Two other courses, spon- sored by the Oshawa Y.W.C.A. and the Ajax C.G.LT. will be assisted by the Association and arangements made for tuber- culin testing, etc. Dr. W. G. Grant, Medical Ad- visory Committee Chairman, re- commended that the Association again offer to pay for influenza vaccine for ex-TB patients if deemed necessary by their phy- sician., Following the meeting, the members assisted Mr. D. To complete a 4-H Calf Club project, each member must ex- hibit his or her calf at the club's achievement day where points are awarded on the calf and on showmanship. In addition, pts. are awarded throughout the year on care and feeding me- thods, monthly feed reports, judging. an exam. and attend- ance at 4-H meetings. Course For Nursing Assistants / The Ontario Department of Education recently announced that a two-year Co-operative Course for Nursing Assistants has been added to the curricu- lum of the Science, Technology and Trades Branch in the Four Year Program. The new course, designed for Grades 11 and 12, consists of two parts--Nursing and Home Economies. The Nursing part of the course will cover such subjects as Biology, Hygiene, Nursing in Emergencies, Elementary Nurs- ing, Medical Surgical Nursing and Care of the Child. The teaching of theory in the nurs- ing subjects will be closely cor- related with concurrent prac. tical work in the classroom and in the clinical areas. The Home Economics course of study, designed for Grade 11, is divided into two Sections-- Nutrition, composed of two units, and Clothing. Some of the topics to be stu died in Unit One, concerned with Normal Nutrition, are Canada's Food Guide, Menu Planning ,and Modification of Normal Diet in Life Cycle. Unit Two, dealing with Therapeutic Nutricion, will cover Theras peutic Diets, Standard Hospi. tal Diets and Modifications of Normal Diet in Therapeutio Nutrition. Section IT of the Home Eco- nomics course of study, Textiles and Clothing, will deal with Clothing Design, Textiles, Clo- thing Construction and Ward- robe Planning.
