He was employed on a temporary basis at a rate of $2.25 per hour. He was chosen from eight other applicants; Wm. Gibson, Norman Boynton, Murray Burn- field, Norman Parry, Stuart Thompson, Fred Warren, Geor- ge Symes and D. G. Rice. Local Police Nab Suspect Chief of Port Perry Police Department, Robert Cameron arrested a Blackstock man who was tampering with cars parked at William's Shell Station on Saturday morning last around 2 o'clock. The suspect had a battery all ready to take away, and is now charged with attempted theft. Another charge is pending, and in the meantime the man is out of jail on $2,000 bail.. SENIOR RATEPAYER CASTS FIRST BALLOT Mr. Alonzo Williams, who now lives on Cochrane St., Port Perry was the first voter in Reach Township's #8 Polling Station. Manchester Hall, to cast his vote in Monday's muni- cipal election. Mr. Williams, who will celebrate his 90th birth- day next Thursday, left immediately after the elections on Monday, to spend the wintergmonths in Florida with his daugh- ter, Mrs. Charles Howsam. --Staff Photo Volume 101 Thre three ladies shown above are Mrs. Keith (June) Crozier; Mrs. Cliff (Grace) Love, both elected as Councillors for the Township of Scugog Township Elections Two women were Councillors for the Township of | Scugog in last Saturday's Elec- tions. Mrs. June Crozier and Mrs. Grace Love were both suec- cessful and gained second and third place in the elections. Leading the poll with a slim one-vote margin was Mr. Ray- mond Fralick, who resigned re- cently from his post on the Board to run as a candidate in the current election in Scugog. This will mean an entirely new Council, with the exception of Mr. Joseph Dowson, who has served the Township in former years. Official results, provided by the Clerk are as follows: For Council-- Mr. Raymond Fralick--154 Mrs. June Crozier--153 Mrs. Grace Love--132 Mr. Joseph Dowson--116 Unsuccessful candidates--Mr. Glen Demara (111 votes) and Mr. Everett Prentice (88 votes). Mr. Victor Aldred remains as Reeve, which position' he has held since 1964, although he was Acting Reeve for a short period at the end of 1963, when Mr. Anson Gerrow resigned to ac- cept another appointment. The Public School Board for Seugog has also gained a wo- man Trustee. Mrs. Helen Red- man polled top voté with 188, ker received 162. The Port Perry Public School had the honour guest speaker at The Principals' Association for York County In- spectorate "#7 and Ontario County Inspectorate #1. Butt Scores 913 Record High Triple Doug Butt, a member of the Thursday night men's league showed some excellent bowling last week. One of the more con- sistent bowlers in the league he came up with an all-time high triple at Causeway Lanes of 913. It's going to take real effort and skilful bowling to beat this record, but no doubt a lot of the competitors will be try- ing to wrest it from Doug. The previous record stood at 889, of being the} School on Thursday, November 26th. The subject of Mr. Cornish's address was "The Relative Achievement of Pupils in ckools of Varying Sizes. Twenty-five Principals of the district schools were in attend- ance. In 1964, Mr. Cornish as- sisted in a province-wide survey on the above-named subject, and has made a detailed study of same. The address was highly interesting and informative. Mr. Cornish's extensive experience as Principal of Public Schools contributed greatly to the sue- cess of the meeting. Mr. Cornish is a past-presi- dent of the Principals' Associa- tion having been President for three successive years. He is no longer a member as the Reach Township, Scugog Township & Port Perry Public School teach- ers have been transferred to In- spectorate #2 Ontario County.
