Neither lady can walk but doe- - tors believe both leg operations have 'been successful, Murs. Clayton Hallett in Lind- say hospital, following surgery Saturday also but developed complications which will make her stay longer. Our fourth community shower of the year was held on Friday evening in honour of Mr, and Mrs, Leslie Sturman, At this time of year social events never start before dark so the pro- gram conducted by Mr. Cliff Short was very short. We had a round of community singing and a piano instrumental by Sylvia Wanamaker, then the young couple were called for- ward, an address read and the gifts opened with the doubtful assistance of the couple's 3 yr: old neice Carol Ann. "Thank expected home on | you's" were said and lunch | served, Mr. and Mrs, Stur- man are living in Cannington for the present, Mr. apd Mrs. Glenn Wana- maker and Mrs. Belair attended the annual meeting and banquet of the Ont. This was U.C,W, week, 26 members and 1 visitor were on hand for the meeting, in charge of Unit 2. Those taking part under leader, Mrs,- M, Bruce were--Mrs. Keen (opening pray- er), Mrs, Hurst (Bible reading), Mrs, Fishley (topic), Mrs. Foote (solo), and Mrs, A. Bruce (mis- sionary - letter), During the business period the members agreed to accept the revised al- location for our group, decided to withdraw the July and Aug. meetings, and turned thumbs down on bake sales for this vear. Lunch was served in the basement at which all joined in singing "Happy Birthday" for Mrs. B, Wanamaker, - Another birthday offering came from Mrs. A. Bruce. A bus load of U.C.W. mem- bers, ex-members and friends had a fine outing on Tuesday last, First stop was at the Ontario County Court house where we were allowed to peek into the council chamber, court rooms, witness rooms, offices, lounges, ete. and saw numerous black-robed figures strolling here and there. At the E.M.O. department we were given in- structions on' evacuation pro- ceedings. This is a very beau- tiful building, beautifully fur- nished and beautifully kept but over-built for present require- ments. The most common com- was: "Now "we know TELE Ra a HR BY Fy SAL . 2 eid b LYE, . ERE) s | vl . Fe . £ ho FS 4 a a a TOES = TERR WSFROF EE ROR DONA SES NY id HAE where 'our taxes go," We pro- 'ceeded to Port Hope where we had a dinner date with the Sr. Citizens Club. During the af- ternoon we were treated to a conducted tour by bus) of the town. Many of us were amazed at the beauty of the place. The Ganaraska River Conservation Authority have done good work by leaving much of the river bank unspoiled while still hav- ing several nice parks. Their Historical Society is quite alive too. We were shown many fine old homes built well over 100 yrs ago as well as the home of former Gov. Gen. Massey, the Joseph Scrivens cottage, Trini- ty College, ete. A short stop was made at the small St, Mark's Anglican Church which had been completely restored by the society. We got some thrills as the bus swooped up hill and down dale and eased around turns which made Seagrave's Catastrophe Corners look like gentle curves. .On returning to the Recreation Centre the Sea. gravers treated? the members to a short program, afternoon tea was served and we headed for home. Our connecting links with Port Hope are Mr. & Mrs, Thos, Dale and fine links they are, Arrangements at-this end were by Mrs. Eagleson and Mrs, G. Stone. The Short (capital S) picnic was held at Wellspring Park, Highway 7-12 on Saturday af- ternoon, (Continued on Page 5) y a ---------- "PARI - "HARNESS RACING ort Perry Fair Grounds MUTUAL WAGERING RCMP Supervision FRIDAY, JUNE 17t 1966 - Post Time 6.00 pm.
