WHITBY DETACHMENT O.P.P. Weekly Report During. the past week, Offi- cers of this Detachment pat- rolled a total of 12,800 miles & investigated 27 motor vehicle accidents. There were 14 per- sons injured---and 18 drivers charged as a result of these ac- cidents. 53 drivers were char ged and 28 were warned, of a total of 86 drivers checked. Speeding drivers still hold first |" place on the charge sheet with unsafe lane changers a close second. General complaints were down a bit this week with a total of 54 received. There were 2 Break & Enters and 3 Thefts reported along with 2 Auto Thefts. Both stolen autos were recovered, as well as 2 other autos that had been re- ported stolen in other areas. 3 --persong were charged with li- quor offences and 1 impaired driver was arrested. It is vitally important to maintain an even rate of speed, to keep' pace with'/the flow of traffic and try to anticipate the ac- Follow- ing the car ahead too closely is the cause of many Freeway fa- talities and multiple-car colli- gions. Allow for unexpected stops, by drivers ahead, parti- cularly in heavy traffic. The good driver follows other vehi- cles at a safe distance, of at least 1 car length for every 10 MPH of speed. J. P. Wilson is going in- to he in Toronto on Tues- day for another eye operation. We do hope it is successful and wish him a speedy recovery. Mr. Howard Ashton is in the hospital for a few days--Our best wishes for Howard too. Mrs. Gordon-Prentice was in Toronto with Donnie and Gail for a few days last week. Then on the week-end the three Prentice boys and their wives, also the wee grandson were home with their parents. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Gibson of Port Perry were dinner guests with Mr. and Mrs. How- ard Ashton one day then in the afternoon vigited with Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Asling of Brookdale. Don't forget this Sunday is "White Gift Sunday", at church and Sunday School. . Church at Epsom at 11.30 this Sunday. The regular U.C.W. meeting will be held Dec. 7, 8.15 p.m. This will be our annual Mis- sionary "gift" meeting. Eric -Benns and Robin of Ux- bridge had supper with Mr. & Mis. Alan Card and family on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Geer visited her mother Mrs. Middle- ton at Whitevale on Sunday. Dr. Jerrold and Mrs. Asling and Janette of Neustadt were with hig parents Mr. and Mrs. Donald Asling on Sunday. Rev. Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Nel- son were dinner guests with Mr and Mrs. Earl Wilson on Sunday. Birthday wishes to Mrs. Florence MacDonald who will celebrate her eightieth Birth- day Dec. 9th. Ashburn News Layman's Sunday Service in Burn's Church on Nov. 27th at 11.30 a.m. was well attended. Mr. E. Heron conducted the service of Worship with Mr. Bruce Lehman leading in the responsive reading from Psalm 145 and Mr. Ross Batten read- ing the New Testament lesson from Romans, Chapter 13. Mr. Ralph Hyatt led in prayer. Mr. Fred Daw told an inter- esting story to the children and James Daw had charge of Jr. Church. The men of the Church as a choir led in the singing of the hymns and Mr. Roy Gaudaur sang a solo. os The Honourable Dr. Dymond, an elder of St. John's M. B. Church, Port Perry delivered an inspiring megsage. Mrs. M. Sparks spent last week with Mr, and Mrs. Chas. Porter, at Guelph. Mrs. Edgar Heron visited Mr. and Mrs. Wm. McAnddless, at Don Mills last Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs." Levi Hopkins of Brougham, called on Mrs. Wm. Hopkins last week. Mrs. H, Doble spent last week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Wes. Doble at Sunderland: Miss Vera Leach spent a few days recently at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon English, Woodville. The Ladies' Guild met at the home of Mrs. Grant 'Parrott last Wednesday evening, Nov. 28rd.
