Samells, Lilla Street, village of Port Perry. Their family consists of two girls: Jean, Mrs. Earl G. Bailey, and Donna, Mrs.. Bruce V. Mackey, both of Oshawa. There are three grandsons. Geer and Karen Kennedy. For the entertainment which followed, one of the couple's sons-in?law, Mr. Bruce. Mackey, acted as Master of Ceremonies. After his words of welcome to the guests, Jean and Donna, daughters , of = the - honoured couple, played a piano duet en- titled "Canadian Capers". This was followed by a humorous reading: given by Mrs. CIiff Love. The highlight of the programme, a mock -wedding arranged by Mrs. Ellsworth Kennedy, was a surprise to all, ~}even-these participants: bride== Mr. 'Aylmer Ploughman; groom --Mrs. Orr Jeffrey; bridesmaid -- Mr. Bill Mark; best man -- Mrs. Lloyd Hunter; flower girl --Mr. Cliff Love; ring bearer-- Mrs. W. J. Beacock. The solo- ists, Mrs. Bert Gray and Mrs. Ellsworth Kennedy, sang two selections during the ceremony: "Out behind dthe Barn" and "She's Alright at Night by. the Good Electric Light." They were accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Stanley Ploughman. Mrs. Edna Beckett, the flower girl of 40 years ago, played the wedding marches. Mr. Earl Bailey, another son-in-law - Port Perry, gathered to cele: brate the couple's 40th wedding anniversary. The former Alpha Gertrude Crosier, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. Wright Crosier _ Manchester, and George Wesley Samells, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter S. Samells, Scugog, were united in marri- age at Manchester on February ~-12th, 1927 by Rev. Swain. The program- me concluded with two vocal selections "Melody of Love" and "Love Me Tender" by Mrs. Ellsworth Kennedy. Tar Mr. and Mrs. Samells were in- vited to the platform and Mrs, Aylmer Ploughman read an ad- dress to the couple on behalf of everyone assembled, Three ne- phews, Mr. Peter Crosier and Masters Kim and Jonathan Cro- sier presented the gifts to the Bride and Groom: an oil paint- ing, wall clock, crystal vase, ruby bowl and cushion. Mr. & Mrs. Samells expressed hearty thanks for the lovely gifts and to those who had worked to plan the evening. After singing, "For they are Jolly Good Fellows", everyone proceeded to the lower level for refreshments prepared and served by the Maybelle Rebek- 'ah Lodge of which the Bride and Groom are both members. Surrounded by their family, the couple presided over a table, centred with a two-tiered wed- ding cake, baked by their daughters. The table was also decorated with two crystal candlestick holders with ruby candles, the gift of the grand- sons Masters John and David Mackey and Craig Bailey, After the Bride and Groom served the wedding cake to their guests, a toast to the an- niversary pair for good health H.S.--K. A bale will be sent to Norway House, Man, in April and the annual bazaar will be held in May. Mrs. Booth has donated a quilt for it. A hymnary was presented to the past president, Mrs. Bert Gray, in recognition of her faithful services. Rev. Teskey closed the meet: ing with prayer. During the social hour a chinese auction was held. Total receipts for the meeting $24.52. Mrs. Vernon and her co-hostess, Georgeanne Legge and Tot Holtby, served refreshments. We were sorry to learn of the unitimely death of the late Mr. Jack Stevens of Toronto, one of our former men, active in Young People's Groups. Our sympathy to Mrs. Stevens and family, brothers Fred of Myrtle Station and Theodore of Man: chester.
