Mr. Anson Gerrow accompani- ed the Ontario group of farm- ers last Wed. to the march on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Recently the Heayn families attended the funeral in Brook- lin of Mr. Earl Heayn's aunt, Mrs. Wm. Cook. The "Head" U.C.W. will be held at the home of Mrs. Gord- on Collins on Wed. evening of June 7th. Congratulations to Arnold Heayn who took part in the In- terschool meet at Cannington on May 10 and won the cham- pionship in the 220 yd., 440 yd. and running long jump. Among those from the Island who enjoyed the bus trip last Thursday to Niagara were Mrs. Wm. Middleton, Mrs. Thos. Red- man and Mrs. R. Hardy. The blossoms were out in a splendid display. Stops were made at Queenston Heights, the Botani- cal Gardens and the Hydro development. Mr. Thos. Redman in Port Perry Hospital is reported as feeling. well again. Mr. Jack Manns in Oshawa Hospital is doing quite well af- ter his operation. We are sorry to report that 'the Squirt Ball Team on the Island will necessarily be dis- continued due to lack of help. Greenbank WI The May meeting of Green- bank W. I. was held Thursday 18th at the home of Mrs. A. McMillan, with the President in the chair. To open the meet- ing the Ode was sung and the Mary Stewart Collect was re- peated in unison. The Pres. Mrs. H. The roll call was answered by twenty-two members and ten visitors. The minutes were read and approved. The Hall committee were instructed to purchase dishes an any needed items for the Hall Kitchen in time for.the Centennial Cele- brations, and Hall opening on June 16 and 17. Mrs. J. Ianson was to look after a guest book for the Reach Hall. The Committee to plan the lunch for the Centennial Cele- brations are as follows: P. Cou- ves, M. Beaton, A. Phoenix, O. McMillan and R. McMcMillan. Reports were read from the standing committees of Home Economics and Health; Citizen- ship and Education. The meet- ing was handed over to the group in charge. Mrs. Brown took the Motto, "Whatever is worth doing is worth doing well". Mrs. Couperthwaite read a poem on "Centennial" and .in- troduced our guest of the even- ing Miss Doris Johnston, who showed slides on her trip to Arizona, also Rachel McMillan showed some very interesting slides she had taken at Expo, a few weeks back, when they vi- sited there. Mrs. Brown Johnston and with a small gift, and the meet- ing closed with the Queen and W. I. Grace. To celebrate the five year's our W.I. has been in operation, there was a very pretty Birth- day cake, which was cut by Mrs. N. Smith of Uxbridge ,and served by the group in charge. Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Smith, and Mrs. Couperthwaite.
