4 CARTWRIGHT TOWNSHIP COUNCIL PORT PERRY STAR -- Thursday, June 15th, 1967 -- 13 Approves 2-Way Radios For Fire Department Cartwright Council met on May 2nd at 7.30 p.m. with all members present and the Reeve in the chair. Three members of the Cartwright Volunteer Fire Department were present to discuss in- stallation of two-way radios in the vehicles. They advised Council that a Toronto firm had offered to install three mobile units and one station unit, complete for $1,000 or the same price as G.E. of Peterboro used units. Council questioned them on warranty and other phases of this 'too good to be true" of- fer but were assured that it was genuine and the equip- ment of the highest standard but transistorized which re duced cost considerably. A motion was passed that this purchase be approved and that an advance of $1,200 be issued on the Fire appro- priation 1967 to cover said installation and other oper ating expenses. The Firemen asked if Council would give a grant toward the cost of the annual firework's display; they stat- in the past covered the cost of supplies but that there was always the danger of having to cover said costs them: selves. Council did not ap- prove said grant at this time, Mr. Milton Fisher was pre- sent and sought oral approv- als of establishing a Plan of Subdivision. Following the April 20th Meeting of the Councils and other interested parties with members of the Community Planning Branch of the Department, consider- able discussion and advice was -given with regards tao Planning and the procedures necessary, now that the two townships were Areas of Subdivision Control, on the Order of the Minister. After some discussion a motion tentatively approving a small residential subdivision in Caesarea on the M. Fisher property was carried. Mr. Harold McLaughlin, was present, seeking approv- al from Council of the sale of a two acre parcel which had been completed for con: veyance the day after the or- der had been registered by the Minister. A copy of the plan was shown, and as it was non agricultural land ap- proved by Resolution #5. A motion was passed and car ried. Mr. MacGregor, .Sec. of Cartwright Lakeshore Rate: payers Assoc. was present with Pres. Fisher and the former mentioned that their new Centennial Signs had been approved by the Coun- ties Engineer for erection subject to certain set backs ete. _ : Wm. Forder, Livestock Valuer, advised Council of the recent epidemic of Sheep killings, and that Cartwright had lost up to approx. 100 head during the last couple weeks. Farmers are urged to oil up their shot guns. The subject Street Lights in Nestleton were approved as follows: Resolution #4 that Council would assume the cost of maintenance and half the installation on be: half the certain ratepayers in Nestleton, so that D.H.O. might consider subsidizing the TA installations. A Re- solution and three readings of authorizing By-Law carri- ed and passed, signed sealed and numbered 1145 for the Corporation. The subject Museum site, as referred to the C. C. Rec reation Board had been re ferred to the Roads Dept. for grass cutting and approv- ed by them on this condi tion. The Clerk was instruc: ted to write the Historic So- ciety and to advise them that the site is approved for a museum and that the Coun- cil will have the roads Dept. maintain the grounds, after the property has been con- veyed to the Township of Cartwright. The subject NEW ARENA was again broached and Council had promised to re- ply to the Arena Committee, therefore a suitable reply was drafted by Council, tak- ing into account the Resolu- tions of the C. C. Rec. Board and the Blackstock Agricul- tural Society, and the Clerk directed to forward same and copies retained. Mr. Dalton Dorrell, chair- man of the Centennial Com- mittee advised Council that the Committee had finally decided to have a Chicken Bar-B-Q along with the sports activities, afternoon of Wed- nesday June 28th, and that it would be followed by Dan- cing to two bands, one for adults and one for teenagers or as they preferred. Bills and Accounts were presented for payment as follows: Roads for $3,058.18, General Accounts for $4,575. 78 for a Total of $7,633.96. This expenditure requires borrowing the sum of $5,500. and this is the first loan of this Centennial Year. Supplementary Roads Ap- propriation By-Law #1143 was given third reading ap- proving the spending of $9,000. for Roads surface treatment. A discussion regarding the transferring of street signs appropriation to reads for this year was approved by Council. The subject of 1967 Bud. get again introduced and cer- tain increases approved: Loss of Livestock increased by $1,000 due to recent rash of killings. Educational Levy increased to $124,584. as a result" of Council meeting with the Auditor and the Members of the Board of Education on April 27th. Council discussed re-hiring of J. E. Williams as caretaker of the North Dump and won- dered if there was not a con- flict of interest now that he is sub-contracted as Garbage Collector's helper as well; Council finally agreed that a benefit to him would also benefit the Township.
