In the first game Lions de- feated East Gwillimbury 6-5 in a game which saw all runs scored in the first 3 innings. In the second game the local boys pulled a real upset as they knocked out Simcoe 5 to 0. Simcoe were a big club but Port played sound defen- sive ball to win. In the third game; without any rest the boys met St. Catharines and lost out 6-3. The boys were weary as they had played three games with- out any rest between games. Coach Al Wackett did a tre- mendous job on Saturday. He went to the park and found he had no drivers to take the boys to Preston. One mother "came fo his aid and the two cars took the team. One fa- ther came up in the after- noon to help bring the boys home. If your boy is a mem- ber of the Lions Club team why not contact Al and help out a coach who is doing a great job. Legion Squirts were not as fortunate. at Belleville as they lost out 13-2 to Oshawa and 25-11 to Hastings. The Legion boys were guilty on poor defensive ball as they were not thinking. Coaches Don Bronson and Jim Irvine will have to spend a lot of time with these boys and the boys will have to pay atten- tion if they wish to make a good showing in the 0.A.S.A. Playoffs. Belleville won the "A" trophy; Hastings won the "B". Ballard Lumber 'Midgets won the first game of the Lakeshore Midget League Playoff on Friday night in 'Cobourg, as they defeated Cobourg 13-9. Second game is Wed. night here. Doug Hughes and Reg Manns com- bined to pitch Ballard's to the win which took extra in- nings. Minor Softball News Thipp's Const. Juniors de- feated Georgian Motel of Oshawa 50 last Tuesday. Tripp's are playing good ball and local fans should look for them each Tuesday night at the local park. Bob Lee was the big man at the plate with 3 solid hits. John Popo- wich continues to throw steady ball for Port.
