10 - PORT PERRY STAR -- Thursday, July 20th, 1967 Minor Softball News By Vin Walker Tripp's Const. Juniors drop- ped two games the past week. They lost out 3-2 to T.V. Towers of Oshawa on Tues. night in a game called after 7% innings. On Thursday night in Oshawa Tripp's gave up 7 first inning runs to People's Clothing. They settled down to lose out 11-8. Ballard Midget's were knocked out of the Lakeshore Midget League Playoff when they lost out 11-8 to Cobourg on Wed. night and Friday 7-6 in Cobourg. On Wed. Ballard's gave up 9 runs in the first three in- 'nings before they started to rally. On Friday njght in a real close tussel Ballard's made several errors which may have turned the tide. Doug Hughes gave up only 6 hits in a fine performance. ~ Ballard's will now have to prepare for O.A.S.A. play which will start about Aug. 10th. Mac McMillan & Carl Luke will be working the boys out as often as possible as this club should go a long way in the playoffs this sea- son. Lake Scugog Lumber and Legion Aux. Junior Ladies teams continue to battle for top spot in the five team league. Zion, Cartwright and Scugog Island are still in the battle but one of these club's will be eliminated as only four clubs will make the playoffs. In House League play -- Goodwood Pee Wee's appear to be well in front of this league; Greenbank and Cart- wright are battling for the Squirt League; Mersco and Lions appear to be leading the Bantam League! Starlets. and Angels are tied for the lead in the Bantam Girls and | in the Tyke all four teams-- Tigers - Giants - Braves and Dodgers are battling with perhaps the Braves & Tigers In front. This coming week-end the 0.A.S.A. meeting will be held in Hamilton and playoff sche- dules will be drawn up. Hodgson was Mr. Carroz of Port Perry. No meetings will be held at the Club in July and Aug- ust. We wish all of the members a happy holiday. Many have been to Montreal to see the wonderful sights at Expo, and all report a good time, One member has just re- turned from England, which shows that even folks over 80 are not too old to see the wonders of the world. Over 45 members enjoyed the annual picnic at Cobourg on Wed., July 12th. One Bur. ley bus was filled and some went in cars. Sorry if some members could not go, as there weren't enough to charter two buses. We left from LG.A., Port Perry at 11 am. Over 600 older peo- ple from miles around en. joyed this get together. There is a lovely Park at Cobourg on the edge of Lake Ontario, ideal for a picnic and swimming for adults or children. Each Club was asked to entertain for 10 min., and there was some good numbers presented. Our club entertained with a ladies quartette all dressed in Century costumes, Mrs. E. Healy, Mrs. R. Howard, Mrs. | Steele, and Mrs. T. Redman. Mrs. E. Gibson presided at the piano. First number rendered was "God bless our Canada" composed by a mem- ber of the club. One group put on a hilarious number and we all can en- joy a good laugh. Lunch at 430 p.m. Co- bourg supplied a cup of tea domain, .
