Congratulations to Billy Ruhl who won the General proficiency prize and trophy donated by the Epsom Com- munity Club and presented at the Port Perry High School Commencement. Sixteen tables of Euchre were played at the Commun- ity party Friday evening. Prize winners were: Ladies Ist Mrs. Al. Christie, 2nd Miss Mary Lambert, low Clara Musselman. Gent's 1st Bruce Houghland, 2nd Jack Crosier, low Mr. R. Nesbitt. Music was provided by Mr. Birkett and Brittany of Bow- manville. Mr. David Pren- tice called. The explorer group will meet at 3.30 on Friday after- noon at Epsom United Church. This is "Initiation" meeting. Please keep the date in mind. Mrs. Jean Jeffery attended the "Baking with Yeast" training school in Uxbridge last Thurs. & Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Donald As- ling visited on Sunday with Dr. and Mrs. Jerrold Asling at Neustadt on Sunday. Mr. Wm. Asling who is in Uxbridge Cottage Hospital is improving and hopes to be home by the end of the week. Little Randy Treck was in Port Perry Hospital for a while and is now in Oshawa Hospital improving from re- cent surgery. We wish him a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Clarke were dinner guests on Sun- day with Mr. and Mrs. Keith Ashton. So many have been away hunting and- many others to the Royal Winter Fair it would be hard to list them all. We hope all had good Perry has been visiting her daughter Mrs. Ray Munro & Mr. Munro for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Pren- tice and Mr. and Mrs. Don- ald Prentice attended the "Opening" of the Scitt Cent- ral School at Sandford on Friday evening. Mr. Mur- ray Prentice is Principal. His brother Ross visited the school in the afternoon and then had dinner with mother and dad. Murray and Joyce and Don and Gail also stayed with Mr. and Mrs. G. Pren- tice Friday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Noble have moved into their new house in Uxbridge. We wish them many years of happi- ness in their new home. A little poem by Edna Jaques might be appreciated by many (wouldn't you know it! I am piecing a crazy quilt. I have a quilt that mother made when we were kids so high; A kind of record of the years that you can sort of measure by. This rosy patch here at the right is from a favourite Port Perry United Church, was the setting for the can- dlelight wedding, evening, 1967, of Norma Noreen Jake- man, Port Hope, Ontario and William Allin Cornish, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Cornish, Port Perry, Ontario. Saturday November 11th, The Reverend Alec G. Rice performed the ceremony and the wedding music was play- ed by Mrs. Donald Forder, organist. Given in marriage by her father, the bride was attired in a floor-length gown of imported, winter-white, Clo- que, featuring a rolled neck- line, an A-line skirt and el- bow length sleeves trimmed with petite matching bows, dramatized by a matching floor-length veil held by a crown of white stephanotis and ivy. She carried a cas- cade of white gardenias, ste- phanotis and trailing ivy. The matron of honour was Mrs. Wayne Kirk, of Oshawa, "| Ontario, sister of the bride, and the bridesmaid was Miss Frances Garvey, of Port Norman Noreen Jakeman Weds William A. Cornish Perry. They were identically attired in floor-length gowns | of imported, gold and rose, iridenscent brocade, similar in style to that of the bride. They carried a cascade of gold, tuneful, daisy mums and wore a crown of match- ing flowers. Garry Venning was the best man, and ushering was Garnet Warriner, both of Port Perry. Receiving at the reception held at the Port Perry Curl- ing Club, the bride's mother wore a floor-length gown of rust, sparkle crepe, and a corsage of yellow carnations. Assisting her, the groom's mother wore a floor-length gown of coral crepe and a corsage of white and coral tinted carnations. For travelling the bride donned a princess style, camel-hair coat-dress, mink brown accessories, and a corsage of a blue vanda or- chid. Mr. and Mrs. Cornish will reside at 250 Queen Street, Port Perry, Ontario. a poem and this was followed by the Topic, "Be Proud of Our Heritage", taken by Mrs. F. Phoenix. She also showed pictures on the opening of the Reach Centennial Hall which were enjoyed by - all, and %the, meeting: closed. Lunch was served by the group in charge Mrs. F, Pho- enix, Mrs. R. Cookman, Mrs, H. McMillan, dress of mine, I was so very proud of it the summer I was nine. This patch along the border here was from a dress my sister wore, It had a frill around the hem, and picot edging, from the store A shirt of Dads with Anchors on, (he was a sailor oh so tall!) And this patch was a lilac gown that Grandma loved the best of all. And so the old quilt holds a spell, and every faded patch is part Of the dear long ago that clings around the fibre GREENBANK W. I. The Womens Institute was held in the Reach Centennial Hall on Nov. 15 at 8:30 p.m. The President, Mrs. H. Phoe- nix opened the meeting with a poem, the Ode, Mary Stew- art Collect was repeated in unison. The Roll Call was answered by the relating of different projects which had been done in this Centennial year. Mrs. F. Phoenix then in- troduced the guest speaker of the evening, Mr. Grant Mc Donald, Perry High School. of Port Needless Principal of my heart. Roll up your sleeve to to say he spoke on Education in the High Schools of today. The changes which are tak- ing place. The vastness of Port Perry School and main- ly on scholarships, prizes etc. Mr. McDonald extended an save a life..." invitation "to the Institute to tour the school on Dec. 13 on Mrs. H. Phoenix thanked Mr. McDonald for his very interesting message. A bus trip to Yorkdale was discussed and is being planned for early in Dec. Anyone interested may con- tact Mrs. G. Beaton or Mrs. Ross Cookman. There will be an exchange of gifts at the Dec. meeting, thle value decided on was to be one dollar. Mrs. Dorothy Ianson gave a splendid report on the Dis- trict convention which was held in Toronto last month. There were various reports from the convenors of differ- ent groups. The 4-H Girls Achievement Day will be held in Trinity United Church, Uxbridge on Dec. 16, and all the Ladies are welcome to attend the Scugog News On Sunday, Mrs. Myrtle Manns with John and Bever- ley motored to Woodstock with Mr. and Mrs. Norman Birkett of Raglan. Then they stayed over night with Bir- kett's. Mr. and Mrs. Jim McCart- ney and daughter of Oshawa visited with their Heayn rel- atives on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Heayn maqtored to Peterborough with daughter Shirley and her family to visit their daughter Stella & her family. Mrs. Raymond Fralick is in the Oshawa hospital. We trust she will soon find a cure and relief for her ill health. We send best wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Reader of Port Perry who will cele- brate their 64th wedding an- niversary on Sat., Nov. 25th. Within 2 wks. Mr. Don Ash- bridge has lost his 3rd uncle, one in Oshawa and two ine Toronto. Mr, and Mrs. Phil Goreski were pleasantly surprised when their friends and neigh- bours of Prospect Community paid them a visit last Wed- nesday evening at their newa home, presented them with a gift, and a very enjoyable evening was spent playing cards. Mr. Ernie White and Mr. Murray McLaren attended the Royal Winter Fair on' Wednesday.
