Miss Margaret Vernon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. . Claire Vernon of Prospect who recently graduated from the Shaw Colleges of Busi- ness was chosen to make the address at that school. Woods, president of the Port Perry Chamber of Commerce informs the Star this week that the C of C will sponsor a Christmas Home Decorating Contest this year. This is the first such con- test since 1963 and it is the intention of the C of C to make this an annual event. Three cash awards will be presented to the winners, and the contest will be open to all home owners in Port Perry. Three judges will be ap- i pointed from outside this Home Decorating Contest area, and will tour the town on Dec. 26, from 7 p.m. un til 10.00 p.m. Mrs. Woods expressed the hope that every house holder in town would go all out to decorate their homes and enter the contest, may be not so much for the sake of winning, but primarily to make the town more festive throughout the Christmas season. Prize winners will be an- nounced in the Port Perry Star following the contest. V Judy Cochrane, now a student of York University was chosen Valedictorian at the Commencement Exercises of Cartwright High School Saturday. The car was apparently dri- ving at excessive speed at the time of 'the impact, how- ever the driver of the milk tanker Brian Harry Hamil- ton, 33 of Blackstock was not injured. (Continued on Page 13) Local Firemen Attend Mutual Aid Meeting Two members of the Port Perry -Fire Department, Bob Brinkman and Bill Harrison attended the November meet- ing of the Ontario Mutual Aid Association which was held in Pickering. The Pick- ering Fire Department were hosts for this meeting. About thirty-five members of par- ticipating Departments were in attendance. After roll call, minutes and committee reports were given the members 'were shown a demonstration of the Drager combustible and multi gas Detecfors by two employees of the Safety Supply Company of Toronto. These Detectors are used for measuring the explosion point of gases and to deter- mine. what type of gas is present.
