Scri Hilltop In the words of a former teacher of our school, "don't let your schooling interfere with your education", lies the failure in our education system. Too many students learn only from books but cannot function in this world as they miss a large part of their education, which lies outside of school. Having stated this, 1 Would like to congratulate Mr. Gra- ham and Miss Purvis who organized a trip to the Ont. County Court House, Whitby for a group of Grade 12's on November 27th. The trip re- lated to the Law Course taken by the 12's and in it- self provided a real contact with the wheels of justice. More education based on this type of instruction is required. The hunters of men, through their relentless efforts not to come up empty handed, made the 'Sadie Hawkins Dance' held on Friday 24th a success. The girls dropped 7 all their subtle attacks on the boys and came out and asked them to the dance. Although not in itself anything out of the usual the dance was enjoyed by all. (Any girls who didn't show up should have been a little braver and corralled a boy). ) Saturday the 18th saw the Boy's Volleyball Tournament being held at our school. Acting as host our team in- dulged in the day's activities Herald and although not winning, enjoyed the competition. The Woodbridge team came out 6n top, winning the Georg- ian Bay Championship. On Saturday, November 24th a Youth -Conference on Traffic Safety was held at the Brock District High School in Cannington. How- ever, due to the poor re- sponse by my peers, your sons and daughters, the con- ference had to be postponed until after Christmas. Hopes publically expressed by the OPP. in their last week's report, and the hopes of thé organizers have been greatly destroyed by "our conscien- tious and responsible younger citizens." The lack of re- sponse points to only one thing -- the youth of %oday just don't care. We continual- ly hear of death on the high- way, many caused by young drivers. What does it take to make us 'young irrespons- ible happy-go-luckies' look at life a little more seriously? Does someone have to get hurt to make us gware. ~ Last week's O.P.P. report carried the comment "a lip of our blue hats to all teen- agers". Since this did not move us maybe a crackdown would be more effective. Any of my peers, having read this far, and who do not themselves feel involved or guilty, should be. BRIAN DONNELLY. Little Britain came up with a 3-0 victory over the Port Perry Flamingo's in a game that saw a steady line- up of players heading for the penalty box. : A total of twenty-five pen- alties were handed out which included four majors and one misconduct. Port Perry pick- ed eleven while Little Britain managed to pick up fourteen. Little Britain had control of the game for fifty minutes while the Flamingo's had 4 or 5 good chances in the last ten minutes but could not find the target. Lorne Campbell in the nets for Port Perry was out- standing and stopped a bar- rage of shots throughout all three periods. The score could have been much high- er ver--209, 250; L. The refereeing left some- thing to be desired but could not be given as the reason for the loss. D. Kelly, R. Jewell and R. Collins were -the marksmen for Little Britain. The Flamingo's next game will be Saturday when they travel to Sunderland, and to Uxbridge on Monday, Dec. 11th. The Flamingo's took quite a beating from the Whitby Mel-Rons last week when the locals lost 13-5 in the Whitby Arena. Scoring for the locals were Dale McNenly 2, Cliff Crad- dock, Neil Pascoe and John 'McMillan "one each.
