Sunderland Harvesters Take Flamingos 16-9 In High Sc The Flamingo's travelled to Sunderland Saturday evening with their young goal-tender. Their No. 1 Lorne Campbell had to sit out a one game suspension. The first period nightmare for Gord Vernon in the nets, as he was fired at by all the big guns. The Port defence did not give him the support he needed and Sunderland ended the first period 7-1. The second period saw Port start to settle down al- though they were out-scored in this period too, finishing 14-4. By the time the third period got under way Port had control. a bit late to win the game but not playing like defeatists they fought on to out-score Sunderland 5-2 in the third period. The Flamingo's biggest problem ceems to be defence, and coach Don Hurst worked on this Tuesday night with a practice from 8.00 till 10.30. A real good work out. New faces trying out with the boys are: Rick Stram, a large defenceman; Carl Roberts, defence (younger brother to Ken). A. Mathews from the previous Bulldozer team is coming out again this year, so we hope to strengthen the defence and get on the win- ning side ready to go in the play-offs. Qur support is growing each week and this is good to see. Next Tucsday we hope to see No 5,000 fan pass through the gate, which will be from the start of intermediate hockey in 1964. So why not be there and try to be our 5,000 fan. Next game, Mon. Dec. 11th in Uxbridge, then back in Port Tues., Dec. 12th against Keswick. Port Perry Star Around this time of the year the ice fisherman gets his fishing tackle in shape and puts a fresh coat of paint on the old fish hut. The south end of Cook's Bay on Lake Simcoe froze over last week so it won't be long before that area is dot ted with fish huts. From past records, there will be the usual number of daring individuals who will venture on to thin ice which is not strong enough to carry the load. Some equipment will be lost, some fishermen will get wet and some likely drown. In the early part of the season a few snowmo: biles go under and later on a car or two. If the occu pants are lucky they may get Warns Area Fishermen To Stay Off Unsafe Ice out before the vehicle sinks. However, generally speakifg, once a vehicle goes under the ice the broken ice fills the hole and very few people ever make it back to the surface. So BE CAREFUL. Don't venture on ice which is not safe. A few fish are mot worth the risk of losing your life or expensive equipment. Remember that all fish huts, placed on the ice of Lakes Couchiching or Simcoe, must bear on the outside licencg numbers not less than 21," high, the number assigned to the owner by an officer of the Department. These num: bers may be obtained by con- tacting the District Forester's Office, Department of Lands and Forests, R.R. 2, Maple" In Sept. the boys of "C" Pack were asked to clean up the fair grounds after the fair. A trip to Camp Samac was promised all those who took part. It happened on the week-end, the 20 boys who helped were picked up at the Scout Hall Friday ev- ening at 6.30 by the leaders and parents. Arrived at the cabin about 7.15. The boys were assigned to their bunks and then had a lively even- ing, retiring about 11 o'clock and settling down about 1.00 o'clock to be awakened at 6.30 a.m. Saturday morning. After breakfast Mr. B. Willis, Mr. G. Hall, Mrs. C. Brady and Dave Carnachan gave the boys a real work- out during the day. The Cubs Visit Camp Samac meals were looked - aftery by Stan Ploughman, also most of the evening program. The others helped out if needed. Saturday night all was well. On Sunday after breakfast and a ramble all gathered in the lounge of the Cabir® for a half hour of worship. After which Mr. Hall and Mr. Willis with Dave took the boys out for exercise, while Stan prepared dinner. After a general clean up, left for home about 2 o'clock. A good time was had by all and thanks to those who gave the help nceded. A and C Packs will start delivering Xmas Cakes this week-end.
