PIT PRC WA. IY. UH VO 3 Sr By So Ed i EE fade Ns © 10 Driver Test Centres To Be Added In Ontario Ontario is opening 10 new driver examination centres this year and enlarging or renovating 12 others, Trans- port Minister Irwin Haskett said recently. The number of driving tests this year is running about 10 per cent ahead of 1966 figures, Mr. Haskett said. The expansion of fa- cilities is intended to meet the demand for tests in spe- cific areas and to anticipate further increase in test volume. Last year the Transport Department's examiners gave more than 800,000 tests to persons applying for driving A.W. BROCK licences. These included vision and written examina- tions as well as road tests. The increase in testing this year is due partly to an in- crease in the number of dri- vers and partly to the intro- duction of separate tests for motorcycle drivers. The Department now has 54 permanent centres and 103 travelling points for the testing of drivers. New centres have been opened this year in Burling- ton, Fort Frances, New Lis- keard and Wawa. Seven other communities that are now travel points are to get new centres and most of DEPARTMENT ready for opening by the end of the year: Hawkesbury, Leamington, Orillia, Renfrew Strathroy and Tillsonburg. To keep pace with growth of local population and to provide facilities that are de- signed for the maximum dri- ver convenience, the exam- ination centres in 12 com- munities are being replaced or renovated. Most are sub- stantially larger than the previous centres. These are in Barrie, Belleville, Brant- ford, Galt, Kingston, Dryden, Kitchener, Pembroke, Peter- borough, St. Catharines, Sarnia and Walkerton.
