Last week the U.C.W party and the S.S Christmas tree took place. Seagrave women have been heard to bemoan the fact that UVC'W meetings seem so much the same. Last Tuesday night things were «hanged a bit. Our long-time friends from Zion. Pleasant Point were special guests as were some local ladies who are not regular members. These people were invited for 830 but the Seagravers had a little private business meeting starting at 7.30. This was a rather hurried affair. Most of the regular business was run through but the president completely forgot "to collect birthday money from two heavy contributors. Unit 1 served lunch in the basement where the gift ex- change took place also. The S. S. concert and Christmas tree was held on Friday night. The various classes produced a variety of numbers which were carried through with much vigor and considerable noise. It is utt- erly impossible to comment on cach effort but we must say coveryone seemed very happy about it all. It was amusing to see the teachers of the beginners class collect- ing their excited charges, keeping them in sight for their number and returning them to their parents. The youngest person attending was the month old son of Mr. and Mrs. Haske who of course didn't perform. Santa Claus arrived finally and dis- tributed the gifts. Poor San- ta is getting older. We see he needed glasses to read the names on the parcels. Two pre-Christmas family gatherings that we know of, took place on Sunday after- noon. One was the Wana- maker party, when Burt's and Glenns of Seagrave with Rons of Oshawa assembled at the Neil Wanamaker home for their annual feast. Word from Port Perry Hospital is that Mrs. Gord Sweetman will be able to come home for Christmas. Nichols (No. 2) really hustled us along this week and had the first hymn announced by the time all had shaken hands with the minister. Mrs. Keen and Mrs. Clements were allowed to contribute their birthday money this time as was 400 Enjoy Vesper Service Again, tradition was re- vealed as the Port Perry Un- ited Church presented their annual Vesper Service in the church auditorium on Sun- day, December 17th. Amidst an appropriate setting of evergreens, pointsettias and subtle lighting of reds and greens, the choirs under the capable direction of Mrs. Frank Hastings and Mrs. Don Forder as organist, thrilled the appreiative audience of over 400 people. After the processional hy: mn of both choirs, the mel- odic voices of 60 children sweetly rendered "Ding Dong Merrily on High" and later combined their voices with the 40 voice senior choir in the favourite carol, "The Little Road to Bethlehem" by Head. The glow- ing candles and the soft blue flowing gowns worn by the women of the senior choir was a sight to behold. Another interesting trio was 'Virgin's Slumber Song' by Reger sung by Misses Barbara Taylor, Nancy Warr, en and Debbie Griffen." The much loved 'O Holy Night' by Adams was artis- tically presented by the choir with Barbara Taylor as so- prano soloist. The modern-carol 'Do Yoy Hear What 1 Hear' by Reg- ney and Shoyne was a change in style from the traditional Christmas style. To conclude the service, hearts and voices rose as one in 'And the Glory of the Lord' from Handel's Messiah, a fitting climax to a worship service in song.
