The theme of Canadian Kdu- cation Week this year (March 3-9) is directed at the high school student. It is: "Don't Quit . . Choose!" This theme is amplitied in a brief pamph- let distributéd to "students across the country. At a time when high school drop-outs are - presenting Canada's educators with a constant and heart- breaking problem, this pamph- "let may well be worth quoting in full. Some young peony SHOULD ~leave school . sure you're one of them? . Yes, some young people should leave school . to attend a different sort of school . . . or to get a job. There are a few who are unfitted . . . physically, mentally, or emo- tionally . . . for the school they are attending or even for any - kind of formal schooling. These young people, though, are a. minority... . a very small minority. The rest should stay 'in school . . in the right school, of course, but in school. Many of us have thought at one time or another of drop- ping out .. . either through boredom, or frustration, or whatever. It's normal. If this feeling does not pass, then you may be in the wrong school." But there is a right school for you. There is the right school . . . and the right "courses of study ... for every young person Ask around. Ask a counsellor. And then, when you've found 'the right school, stick with it until you reach your goal. "Many drop-outs seem happy now . . . but what about ten they be . . . . . then? Don't quit . They Voi Back - choose! Some young Canadians of advanced education will always be found completing their studies at universities south of the border." It would be a pity if all 'sueh should be lost to Canada as they - come within sight of embarking upon their careers (their edu- cation, after all, has been large- ly paid for by the Canadian tax- payer) and it is good to know that many of them are in fact ready and anxious to return to their native land on graduation provided they can find appro- priate employment in industry here. ~ Some, wi th commendable zeal, take the initiative in mak- - ing known their qualifications and biographies in form, complete with photo- tion Potential put out by mem- bers of the Canadian Club at The Harvard Graduate School of Business' Administration is "a case in point. As for several years past, the Canadian Manufacturers' As- sociation is assisting this mod- est project by publicizing the current tissue of Potential and distributing it to its Do, across the 'country. In so doing the CMA is serv- ing not only the interests of the U.S. based students in question and, of course, of its member companies, but those of Canada as a whole.
