Attrac- tive displays of Flowers, Knitting, Crafts etc. as well 'ROUND THE TOWN'z County History Ready By Spring A comprehensive history of Ontario County is expect- ed to be off .the press in the spring of 1970. The book, commissioned 'by county council, is well under way. Indications are it will be the most complete work of its | kind in"existence. Leo Johnson, assistant pro- fessor of history at Waterlan University, who is writing the history, told members of the standing committee on county matters, Saturday he has made many trips to the archives-in-Toronto and Ot- tawa. He plans to spend | five months in the county next summer to gather facts and complete the work. It will trace the history of the county from the days of the Indians through the es- tablishment of the first | ing posts in Pickering Town- ship by the French and Eng- lish, the arrival of the first settlers to the present day. 14 Girls Walk For UNICEF Last Sunday afternoon 14 members of the Port Perry and Prince Albert Une) Church Canadian Girls i Training group and their toy terrier 'mascot, Kandie, set out to walk from the Un- ited Church in Port Perry to the United Church in Black- stock, and back. The distance is over 15 miles and not one girl drop- ped out. The escort cars were only needed to dispense wat- er and candy. Mrs. C. Andrews, Prine» Albert C.G.IT. Leader, and her mother Mrs. Daves of Blackstock, had hot choeo- 'late. sandwiches and cookies waiting for the marchers when thev reached the Black- stock United Church. All girls had contacted relatives and friends who agreed to pav them so much for each mile walked, and this money will all go to UNICEF. Terri Kennedy walked the return trip in record time of onlv one hour and fifty minutes, as a home baking table was well patronized by many peo- ple. Mrs. Dora Dowson play- ed appropriate music during the tea hour, a very profit- able day and successful day for the U.C.W.
