Hill Women's Institute The regular monthly meet- ing of the Women's Institute was held in the Township Hall Wednesday afternoon, November 13th with 23 la- dies attending with: the. ore- sident and secretary in their places. Meeting opened with the Ode and Collect. Min- utes and correspondence were read. Decided to send $1000 to Mental Health and $5.00 to Hospital Doll Draw, also to give the $600.00 pro- mised for Port Perry New Hospital now, so they will be able to purchase the furni- ture ete. for the Day Room, before the opening of hospi- tal, which they hope will be in January. Mrs. McArthur and Miss Dempsey were au- thorized to purchase the five prizes for the High School Commencement. Treasurer's report was given by Mrs. P. Van Camp in the absence of Mrs. R. Mountjoy. Mrs. Wm. Hooey gave an interesting report of the area Convention in Royal York. The roll call -- A social custom of Grandmother's Day -- was well answered. Mrs. McArthur, convenor of Historical Research now presided. In reply to the motto "Old things have charm", Miss I. Dempsey read a poem, "Old Things, Old People". A couple of old time songs were sung by all. Mrs. McArthur read a Parody on when you and I were young Maggie -- then introduced Mrs. M. Wiseman of Bowmanville who 'gave a most interesting address on "Our Heritage". She also displayed some things she had brought along from the museum in Bowmanville. Af- ter-the thanks the meeting closed with God Save the Queen. A contest on Dates we should remember was served by the group and a social half hour enjoyed. 0.N.O. Club Meeting * The November meeting of the O.N.O. was held at the home of Dolly Lee. The min- utes were read and adopted. President Jean Mahafiy gave a special vote of thanks to Elaine Bailey who sent out all the cards for the Red November 27th. CAE) ¥ Wars hat surer reported a bank bal ance of $413.31. It was moved by Edith Me- Laughlin, seconded by Jean Porrill that we send $5.00 to the hospital doll fund. Mo- tion carried, Lists of food and waiters needed for thegHolstein Ban- quet were givgn out by Con- venor Jessie Gunter. It was moved by Alma Duff, seconded by Elaine Bailey that we pay for our own ticket for the Husband's Banquet on Nov. 30th 'and the remaining expenses come out of the O.N.O. funds. Motion carried. A discussion was held as to whether we sponsor the Scout Assoc. or not. It was moved by Edith McLaughlin, seconded 'by Norma Van Camp that a letter be sent to the Group Committee stating that we had made a donation to each group of Scouts and Guides as it had started and were willing to donate again if needed but we do not wish to assume the responsibilities that go with the sponsorship. Motion carried. . - Roll Call was answered by a gift for the Golden Plough Lodge. Mrs. Tripp, -a model from Oshawa, gave a very interest- ing talk on self-improvement. A baby shower was held for Donna Kyte. 24 members and 4 visitors were present. The hostess and her groun served a delicious lunch of. make-your-own - sandwiches, dessert and coffee. Prize winners at the euchre Wednesday night were high lady with a score of 94 -- Mrs. V. Carl of Oshawa; high gent score of 79--Mr. Wal- ter Lawrence; Lucky Draw--- Mrs. B. Russel. Next party In the United Church Sun- day morning the choir sang the Anthem "Eye Hath not Seen". Rev. P. Romeril de- livered a very thought pro- voking sermon on "Status Symbols". In St. John's Rev. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Van Camp are spending a while with her brother Mr. Rud Heaslip, Toronto who - has just returned to his home following eye surgery. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Samells spent Saturday and Sunday with the Melville Samell's, Bowmanville. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wright, Oshawa visited Mr. and Mrs. Ken Dunsmoore, Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Stan Rahm and Mr. and Mrs. Cameron Porter and Sean of Orono visited Mr. Paul Rahm, Tor- onto, Sunday. Mr. Bob Smith, Toronto, spent Saturday and Mrs, M. P. Philp, West Hill, Sunday, with Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Smith. No School today: Every- thing was a glare of ice this morning. Bus drivers were notified to not go out. Now it is eleven o'clock and traf- fic moving quite well here in the village at least. A good many phone lines are or were out earlier, but coming again now. ' Mr. and Mrs, Rae Mahaffy, Stratford were Sunday visit- ors with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Mahaffy and boys. Mr. and Mrs. Rupt Byers called on several friends in the village Saturday and were supper guests of Mr. & Mrs. Carl Wright. Several from this area have been or are visiting the Royal Winter Fair.
