AND TIE MARKHAM N On Dec. 30th, 1968 Cy's Mustangs went to .Markham and after taking a 1st period 3 goal lead ran out of steam and let Markham score 7 un- answered goals in the second and third periods. Mustangs goals were scor- ed by Ron Short, Grant Mec- Laughlin and Rick Evans with assists going to Glenn Geer (2), Grant McLaughlin and Ken Irvine. Mustangs 2; Markham 2. On Tues, Jan. 7th, 1968 Markham returned the visit and although Cy's Guys had a slight edge in the play, went home with a 2-2 tie. - Mustangs opened the scoring late in-the first period on a goal by Ken Irvine assisted by Danny McCartney. It re- mained that way throughout the second period which saw some fast moving hockey by both teams and. qutstanding goal tending by both Dave Gray & the Markham Goalie. In the third period a Mus- tang . defenceman was trap- ped down ice and Rapp scor- ed for Markham, assisted by Sissons. With seven minutes left Sissons connected, assist- ed by Dean. Mustangs Glenn Geer got a foolish miscon- duct penalty for . slamming his stick on the boards while leaving the ice. With a min- ute and a half remaining Mustangs pulled their goalie and it paid off when Grant 'McLaughlin connected from Danny McCartney and Roger Moase. - On Feb. 1st, 1968 both Mustangs and Beare's Chevys will go to Cammillas New York for an exhibition series. MUSTANGS ATTEND TOURNAMENT AT LITTLE BRITAIN , On Saturday, Po 11 Mus- tangs attended a Midget tour- nament at Little" Britain. Their first game was against Sunderland and they won 7- 5. It was a loosely played game on both sides. Mus- tangs scored 3 goals in the first period by Glenn Geer, Ken Irvine and Rick Evans with assists going to Grant McLaughlin and Ken Irvine. Sunderland scored twice with John Baker, Bruce Ferguson counting, assisted by Ralph MacDonald and Harold Fair. In the second period Mus- tangs got 3 more goals. Two from Ken Irvine and one from Roger Moase with as- sists going to Danny McCart- ney, Rick Evans, Bill David- son and Rick Trotter. It remained that way until the third period with Sun- derland picking up three goals from Bruce Ferguson, John Baker who also assist- ed on two, and No. 6 whose name was missed. Sunder- land assists also went to John Brown and Brian St. John. Final score Mustangs 7, Sun- derland 5. The second game Cy's Guys came up against a strong 'Bobcaygeon team and tied | them 2-2. However. ties were decided on shots from centre ice and on the second round Bobcaygeon got the nod. With one minute and forty seconds left in the game Mustangs pulled their goal- tender and Grant McLaugh- Masonic Lodge Holds Second Annual Spiel Rink Skipped by R. Cornish Captures Top Honours in the Masonic Spiel for the Second Year in Succession On Saturday January 11th the Port Perry Curling Club was the scene of some keen competitive curling when Masonic Lodges entered rinks from Bowmanville, Oshawa, Uxbridge, Pickering, Sunderland and Port Perry, The high three-game win- ner was from Fidelity Lodge AF. & AM. Port Perry, skip- ped by Roy Cornish, vice: skip Harold Howsam, second John Barton, lead Bill Glid- den, all members of the local lodge #428. Two-game winners were skipped by Norman Attersley Oshawa, Harry (Dutch) Os- borne,.Bowmanville and Don Mitchell, Brooklin who are members of the Port Perry Curling Club. High one-game winners were skipped by Bob Timbers Uxbridge (entered by James Baird) and George McPhaden of Port Perry. The first prize was pre- sented to the winning rink by the Worshipful Master of Fidelity Lodge, Wor. Bro. Robert Storry, who congratu- lated the winning curlers and expressed his personal thanks to the Bonspiel Committe viz Bro. George McPhaden and. Bro Jack Nottingham who as- sisted thé Worshipful Master in providing such an enjoy- able day of good curling and fine fellowship among the brethren present. . A very distinguished visit- or at the bonspiel was the Grand Junior Warden of the Grand Lodge of Canada in the Province of Ontario in "{the person of Right Wor. Bro. Garnet B. It was very disappointing for the boys to lose this one. Mustangs 3 West Rouge 3 Sunday, Jan. 12th Mustangs played West Rouge in Stouff- ville and wound up with a 3-3 tie. The game was quite rough in spots and there were quite a few penalties. Rick Evans completed a passing play from Ken Irvine for the first goal to give Mus- tangs a 1-0 lead. In the se- cond period Roger Moase pic- ked up a rebound on Bill Davidson's shot to put Mus- tangs 2 up. West Rouge came up with a goal to end the second period 2-1. In the third period Paul Kane scored assisted by Paul Heard and Roger Holtby to give Cy's Guys a 3-1 lead. This line despite being to- gether for the first time re- ally worked and deserves special mention. West Rouge scored again to make it 3-2 It paid off 4 seconds from the end of the game and Mus- tangs had to be content with a tie. Paul Taylor played steady in the net for Mus- tangs and deserved a win, Bowling LADIES.
