The couple were married _ January 19, 1944 in Dorking, Surrey, England, the bride's home town, and they have two children, David and Debbie. The Summary Day for Vegetables with a Flair will _be held in Trinity United Church Hall on Feb. 18th, The Needlecraft course is to be held in Greenbank Hall on Feb. 25 and 26 from 10 am. to 4 pam, A committee was appoint- ed to see about cleaning and repairing the old lamp fix- tures that were once a part of the lighting system of the Hall, The group took over the meeting and Mrs, Ianson gave some thoughts on the motto: Patience is nature's secret to success. Mrs. Don Real spoke on those in Uxbridge and Mrs. Ianson told about the procesesses of tanning hides 'as carnied on at the Uxbridge tannery. Scugog Mr. and Mrs. 9¢ Redman had company from Peter- borough on Sunday when their little girl celebrated her birthday along with Tommy who also celebrated the occa- sion with his 12th birthday. Ken Wilson and Peter Hood took -advantage of the bus trip to Pittsburg for the week- end to see the Maple Leafs in action and see their winning score. Mrs. Jim Wilson, Mrs. John Sweetman, Mrs. Aileen Kane and daughters enjoyed the bus trip to Toronto on Sun- day night to see the Ice Follies. On Friday night Mr. and Mrs. Murray Jackson celeb- rated their fifth Wedding Anniversary at a dinner in the Genosha Hotel. Mrs. Sam Cawker occupied the chair and opened the meeting with a call to worship and a short reading. After welcoming all present and wishing the new year will be filled with good fortune, Mrs. Cawker called on unit no. 8 to conduct the devotional, Mrs. Harold Jackson led in a very fine devotional with Mrs. Ted Jack- son and Mrs. Howard Hall taking part. The theme was "A New Year's Calendar and likened. the seasons and our lives to times of planting - growing - reaping and resting, thus showing the new year is not a beginning but a continuous 'going on'. A short reading entitled 'Morning thought' closed with these words 'I shall behave myself and leave the rest to God'. Scripture reading, comment- ary, the singing of two hymns and prayer brought the devot- ional period to a close. Business pertaining to last year was attended to. A brief Memorial Service was held in memory of U.C.W. mem- bers who had passed away in 1968. The solemn service led by Mrs. MacTavish exp- ressed our respects, affection and the regret we feel at the loss of these members. Mrs. 'Mabel Chapman - Mrs. Muriel Chambers - Mrs. Hope and Mrs. Roy O'Neil. Fine annual reports from units, Convenors of Commit- tees, the Corr. Sect'y and Treasurer were heard and a motion was passed that these reports be accepted. Mrs. Cawker spoke of her term of office as President and how she appreciated the co- operation she had received. She encouraged us to go on to further success in our work and expressed the feeling that under the leadership of Mrs. Grant McDermott another successful year would be en- joyed. In 1926 he married Myrtle Henry who predeased him in April, 1943. A retired farmer and in his later years an employee for the Department of High- ways, he made his home in Blackstock for the past 35 to 40 years and prior to that time lived at Enfield and Enniskillen. He was a member of Nes. tleton Presbyterian Church. * Mourning his passing are two brothers, Russell of En- niskillen and 'John of Osh- awa, four sisters Loverne (Mrs. Walter Rahm), Tyrone, Elva (Mrs, George Bradley), Callender, Doris (Mrs. Jack Herod) Weston and Marion (Mrs. Gordon Whittaker) Hamilton, two brothers Lorne and Wilmer predeased.
