EAS) Z Ih GEAR ARH Lindsay Presbytery - Suggests A What do congregations expect their situation to be by 1978, judging by present trends and how can they make a stronger, better Christian witness, presently and in the future? These were concerns of a Survey Committee which reported to Lindsay Pregby- .- tery, United Church of Can- ada, meeting in Cambridge Street United Church, Lindsay Wednesday, February 26, 1969. The Survey Committee gave its impression that some peo- ple- recognized the need for re-organization of the Church's _ work while others were back- ward-looking, idolizing a Church building 'and oppos- ing any. move to 'close it, even to strengthen the Church's work. * There are some 'trends and opportunities for consolidation and strengthening of Church work. The increasing number of cottages and modern homes built along country roads does little or nothing to strengthen the Church = of the open countryside. In addition, such churches tend to be weak- ened as farmers retire to village or town. Recommend- ations of the Report with a view to 'strengthening the Church's work and witness, were that Dunsford-Providence and Bobcageon become one Pastoral Charge; Cambray a three or two point Charge; malgamation 0f Smaller Charges Coboconk a three point Charge of Coboconk, Norland and Kinmount; and Sebright a two point Charge by the clos- ing of Sadowa, It was recom- mended that some three point Charges become two point. Charges, although the responsibility for the decisiqn as to when to close, was left to the. congregation con- cerned. After revising the Survey Report, the Presbytery sup- ported all its recommend- ations, It also decided that Eden Church of the Cambray Charge of four churches, be the one to close. This was done on the understanding that Eden congregation, with fine Christian spirit, "was willing for this to happen in order to strengthen the -Church's life and work on the Cambray Charge. * The Chairman, Rev. J. Newton Reed and members of the Survey Committee were thanked for their efforts in making the Report possible. The Rev. H.G. Pritchard, Home Missions -~ Convener, reminded Presbytery that the Salary Increment Plan for min- isters is to be implemented by January 1, 1970. The com- mittee on Ministerial Salaries with Mrs. B. Roeske, Burnt River, Convener, will supervise the implementation. The Rev. W.J. Price, Past- oral Relations Committee Con- WATERMELON IS A GREAT FRUIT: YOU EAT IT, DRINK | IT AND WASH YOUR FACE Be A.
