A deputation of five resid- ents in Bat area attended the regular meeting = of Reach Council * in Manchester on August 5 and expressed their concern in regard to gravel pit operations and the Rigly scars to the landscape Gavsed by unused pits. It was urged - that rigid enforcement of present by- law in regard to gravel pit operations be instituted. It was pointed out that addit- ional . by-laws would protect 'the general public and prevent devaluation of adjacent prop- erties. An- itemized list of violations to the present by- laws was presented to council, and the following suggestions below were 'proposed to be included in the by-laws: 1. No re-zoning of property until _ local residents be informed and consulted. 2. Posting of a bond when _ licence is issued or renewal (Continued on Page 10) Local Tennis Club Off To Good Start The turn-out for the first practice session of the new Port Perry Tennis Club can only be termed successful. The 40 to 50 tennis enthusiast attending on Tuesday, August 5 .prove this fine sport had sufficient support to. form such an organization. For the last three weeks Clifford has-been the guest of Mr. and Mrs. George Hall of Port Perry and their son Richard, also a scout. For three weeks of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Assmus, in Eatonia. Clifford said he 'enjoyed his stay in Port Perry, but is looking forward to returning to his home town in Saskatchewan.
