Assisting him during the informal but highly informative meeting was R. E. (Ted) Sims, exe cutive administrator, a posi tion he was recently ap- pointed to. Both speakers emphasized strongly the main purpose of the meeting was to make local persons. involved .and interested in the develop: ment of Regional Govern. ment. They were also look- ing for possible suggestions from local participants in the research to reach the best solutions as far as the size and type of government that would apply to a speci fic area. } Mr. Patterson told the small gathering the Regional Government study would "take one year to complete and will be divided into three stages of study, with the first expected to be com- pleted in January 1970. The second paper or study is ex- pected to be completed in mid March, and the third 'in July. -- At this stage, Mr, Patter: son said he would present his own tentative solutions, and organizations and indivi- duals will be able to present briefs at public hearings. These meetings will be called two to three weeks followng completion of the third study. He indicated this was a very tight time scheduled, but felt it was pos- sible to accomplish this if co-operation was given on all levels. During the three hour meeting. Mr. Patterson and Mr, Sims gave well prepared' answers. to a number of questions directed to them | from the council members present. : Reeve Robt. Mrs. Sam Cawker of Nestle- ton (formerly of Port Perry) Fire At Seagrave A garage owned by Onno Jansen of Seagrave was destroyed by fire Tuesday evening. xi Firemen were called at 6:16 and were on the scene for four hours. The fire apparently started in the north end of the building and in minutes spread throughout the wooden structure. Firemen pumped water from the Nonquon River. *"To W.I. Mrs. Cawker was elected to serve as Provincial Board Director for the Province of Ontario, with Mrs. Williams being elected as alternate. The election to the Board involves a great deal of time, effort and considerable travel- ling, representing sub-division and the Districts of York Centre, York .West, - York North, York East and Ontario South. Residents Use 56,813,000 Gal. Of Town Water The O.W.R.C. reported to council in a letter that Port Perry has used over 56,813,- 000 gallons of water in the first eight months of 1969. They gave a breakdown of the number of gallons used daily and monthly in their report. The letter stated. . . His brother Roy captured sec- ond place in the same class, and other members from: the Ontario County 4-H Grain Clubs placed high on the list of the 31 entries competing for honours. Lynn Fair, Ontario County agriculture representative, announced the good news at the Lions Club dinner meeting Monday "night where members of the Port Perry 4-H Grain Club members .were present as guests of the club. Vote March 18 Following an approval by the Liquor Control Board of Ontario the Port Perry Coun- cil passed a by-law to take a vote on Wednesday, March 18, 1970, on the following question. Uxbridge Legion Pipe Band and the Port Perry High School band will take part and Santa himself will be handing out bags of candies to the children.
