A discussion arose regard- ing the new plans for kitchen renovating. A delicious lunch was provided by those in charge, Mrs. W. Roy Hope, Mrs. Newnham and Mrs. W. Roy Hope The meeting was then moved adjourned. The following family group enjoyed a delicious dinner re- cently at the "Rockhaven Eating House" including Mr. and Mrs. G. Hunter, and fa- mily, Mr. and Mrs: J. Hunter, Mr. and Mrs. C. Willes, Mrs. Esther Heayn and family, also Mr. and Mrs. T. Buxcey. This gathering was in honour of Mr. and Mrs. John Hunter and cousin Mr. and Mrs. Tony Buxcey upon their first wed- ding anniversary. Noreen Malcolm and Joan Graham were members of the curling rink which won second prize in the LG.A. Bonspiel in Port Perry on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Gra- ham attended the Guernsey Club snowmobile party and tour through the Ganaraska Forest Tuesday night. Congratulations to Janis Dorrell and Cindy VanCamp who won the West Durham Public Speaking Contest at Bowmanville on Tuesday evening. Those from this area who attended the con- test in addition to the speak- ers were Mrs. Dalton Dorrell, Mrs. Keith VanCamp, Barry and Leanne, Mrs. Wilbur Toms, Mr. and Mrs. Percy Van Camp, Mrs. Stanford VanCamp, Marie VanCamp & Mr. E, Challice. We wish these girls good luck when they advance to the next contest in Durham on Tues-' day evening. Saturday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Archer were Mr: and Mrs. Don Fleming, Oshawa, On Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Archer and Jim, Whitby visited his parents. On Saturday several curl- ers from here participated in the O'Keefe Bonspiel in Port Perry. Neil and Elaine Bailey and Brian and Wendy Hamilton won 3rd prize. Dorothy and Jim Marlow along with friends from Ux- bridge won 4th prize. Also attending was a rink com- posed of Ivan and. Gwen Thompson and Ken and Doris Dargavel. By Susan Thompson 0 n-Sunday, February. 22, Thinking Day for Guides ¢& Brownies all over the world, a Gold Cord presentation was held "at Blackstock United Church. This gold cord, the highest award in guiding, was received by four guides:. Crawford, Heather Dorrell, Susan McColl, and Janet Turner, Rev. V. Par- sons received the colours and welcomed the fine crowd present, Mrs. Brian Hamilton, Dist- rict Commissioner, was the narrator for the program in which the Brownies & Guides presented the story of Guid- ing in Canada during the last sixty years. Leanne Dorrell, herself a gold cord guide, sang "My Country is my Cathedral" which added much to the pro- gram. Ranger Lorrie Turner played the organ. Due to the absence because of illness, of our Division Commissioner, Mrs. Fred Ha- milton, the gold cords were tied by the District Commis- sioner. After the presentation of photos, gold trefoil pins, and gold cord pins, the Brownies, Cubs, Guides, Scouts, Rang- Janice 'ers and Venturers joined hands around the Church. Each one made a link in a diamond chain and during the closing renewed the pro- mise made at enrolment. The colours were then presented by Rev. R. C. Rose who pro.
