Viking variety. His estimated yield in bushels' per acre was .604, and. his total score for quality was '120. . Mr. Bill Lockie, Zephyr, was in second place with a total score of 119, and 625 bushels per acre. He used the Kennebec variety. Mr. Walter Kerry, Port Perry, He. used the - yield and total score of 116, bushels per _acre, with the Kennebec variety. There were 12 growers, who took part' in this high yield competition . this year. The 500 Bushel Potato Club and 554° potato. competition was brought to a conclusion with a banquet at the Community Hall, Sand- ford, on Wednesday, October 27th. Mr. Murray Crone, Mount Albert, was master of ceremonies. 'The guest speaker for the evening was Mr. 'Will Nap, Potato Specialist, Ontario Department of - Agriculture and Food, Alliston, Mr. Nap: - .spoke on the future -of the potato industry. He indicated' that not much change was in sight. over the next four: yeafs; however, 'some change in markets could he expected beyond that 'time, with consumers turning more to ready to cook foods such as frozen potato chips, with a higher percentage of the population in the working force than we have at the present time. Mr, Nap ad- vised growers to' control Association, production costs as much as possible in an -cffort to maintain the industry in a helathy competitive position, The speaker was in- troduced by Ovan Bell, and thanked, on behalf of those present, by Frank Hendy. Mr, Hendy also moved a vote of thanks to the donors of .prizes and special awards, who were present. Mr. Russell - Morrison,' Director of the Provincial Soil & Crop Improvement Association, spoke on the. activities of the. Provincial and congratulated growers on their success this year.
