Councillor Fred Christie $ first try at leaflet,- Councillor Armour NY McMillan Close battle for Reeve in Reach Twp. election The "voters of Reach Township have returned incumbent Reeve Ed "Sam" Oyler for another term of ®. office. In Township elections held Monday, | defeated former Reach Mr, Oyler - Councillor Arthur Catton by 51 votes. Incumbent Councillors Fred Christie and Armour McMillan were both re- elected to Council. And in his municipal politics, Neil Hunter was elected to a seat on Council. The two defeated Council candidates were Reg. Foster "and Mrs. Marg Wilbur. The battle for Reeve between Mr. Oyler and Mr. Catton was a close one, with a heavy Prince Albert vote in favour of-Mr. Oyler being the deciding factor. After five polls, Mr. Catton led by 12 votes. After eight polls, Mr. final . poll 'to come in was from Prince Albert, showing 123 to 63 in Mr. Oyler's favour, The total tabulation showed Mr, Oyler with 524 votes and Mr. Catton with 473. Of the three candidates elected to Council. Fred Christie had the strongest backing with 633 votes. He was followed by Armour McMillan with 562 and Neil Hunter with 551. Reg Foster thought the campaign was a "clean one, and is only fitting to congratulate the winners." He expressed hope that the Council would come to decisions both fair and just to all ratepayers in Reach Township. He also had kind words . for Mrs. Wilbur saying that if she should decide to run in future elections, her youth would be a definite asset. Neil Hunter, who will begin his first term as Councillor thanked all who voted, "especially those who supported me."" He said' he will try to uphold the faith the electorate showed in him during the next year. "Once again, I must thank you all," said Fred Christie, "lf am highly elated".
