Honeydale Women's Inst. "Hold Monthly Meeting By Mabel Cawker The December meeting under the leadership of Mrs. C. DeYonge, convener of Historical research and Current Events was held in the Municipal Hall with a "fair attendance. ) The President, Mrs. Thos. Bell chaired the meeting and extended a warm friendly welcome to all. A special welcome was given to Bonnie Gerrow from Scugog Island. After the opening preliminaries were carried out, the Secy'y Mrs. Stan Ploughman read the correspondance and several items of business were dealt with. A motion was made to send- the usual amount of money and a Christmas gift for retarded children in Orillia; Arrangements were made to send Christmas cards to former members who have moved away. Miss Audrey Kent offered her services for the sending of cards. Baskets of cheer for the shut-ins will be distributed as usual. Committee - Mrs. Maxwell Bassant and Mrs. Fred Warren. A letter was read from the newly elected president of - WES PLUMBING - Central Ontario Area, Mrs. Irwin Maltby, regarding a luncheon Cloth Competition for the 75th Anniversary Year of the Federated Women's Institutes of On- tario, in 1972, which is also the 70th Anniversary of Central Ontario Area. The Luncheon Cloth must be - approximately 45' up to 54" square, and is to be made of cotton or -linen, - must be needlework (not painted) and the W. I. Crest (or crests) must appear on the cloth. Edge is optional - not to be judged. Any member may enter one cloth. The Luncheon Cloths will be judged at District level in May and the winning cloth to be forwarded to area sec'y -not later than July 1st. It is hoped members will support this project and ensure a successful anniversary year competition. We have many talented. members in Honeydale Branch. Come on girls! Let's see what you can do. Members entertained residents of the Community _ Nursing Home, Dec. 1st. A very warm thank you to Mrs. Lloyd Hunter for sharing her talents with the good folks at the home. Samells at the piano livened up the meeting. Mrs, Harold -._. Honey and Mrs. Sam Cawker led the singers. To the tune of 'Jingle Bells" members circled the table. keeping time to the music and received a gift from Santa adding much to the enjoyment of the program, A very pleasant social hour followed with Madames C. ASHBURN NEWS The Christmas Musical is to be held in the church on Sunday evening, December -19th,-- with .a carol sing - beginning at 7:20 p.m. . Various groups will par- ticipate in an evening of music. Social hour will followin the church hall, Everyone is welcome to attend. The Ladies Bible Class "their Christmas meeting in the- church on Wednesday, December 8th in the form of a pot luck supper. About 22 ladies were in attendance. Following a delicious meal, the meeting progressed at 8:15, with the president, Mrs..R. Batten -in charge. The meeting opened with the carol '""The First Noel". The scripture reading was from Peter 4: 1- 11. Mrs. Batten's meditation was based on John 3: 16, followed by prayer, * The offering was received and dedicated. All joined in the singing of "Angles from the Realms of Glory. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. A few items of business were dealt with. Mrs. D. Ashton was in charge of the program, be. ginning with a carol sing. A reading by Mrs. Lynde. ~A solo by 'Mrs. Bill-Hamil.- ton, "Have You Ever Seen The. Star?" Two readings by Mrs. Ashton, "After glow" and "Somebody's Mother". Mrs. Jennie John- son, Glen Major, gave us a lovely Christmas message. The singing of "Beautiful Saviour" brought the meet- ing to a close followed b the Lord's prayer.
