One of the highlights of the skating party was the burn- ing of a huge pile of Christ- mas trees which had been piled on the lake that after- noon. The flames from the fire were estimated to have leaped over 50 feet into the air. : FEBRUARY ~The Port Perry Kinsmen Club was formed -and held their Charter Night at the' Legion Hall, on Saturday, Feb. 20. Larry Kendall was elected as the clubs first president. ' ¥ MARCH A large crowd attended the annual "At Home" held at the High School, and this year Miss Debbie Garvey 17, was crowned Queen, and Miss Susan Tripp 15, was chosen as princess. In the final game of the day, Port Perry defeated winning its first Intermedi. ate "A" Basketball Cham- pionship, in G.B.S.S.A. Com. petition. APRIL The local Midget C hockey team ended its season by bringing home the Ontario Midget C Championship. About 100 hockey enthusi- asts gathered at the arena to greet the players on their return from Dresden. MAY A plane, piloted by a well. known woman stunt pilot, Sally Wagner was instantly - killed when her Chipmunk plane crashed following a practice flight from the Oshawa airport.
