The game was very close as Whitby scored the win- ning goal with -just five minutes remaining in the game, Basketball tournament in Toronto The Seventh Annual Jarvis: Collegiate Invitational Basketball Tournament will be "held at that collegiate January 14 and 15. There are actually two tournaments involved, . the first with eight Toronto high schools in single elimination play, and the second with (wo teams from New York State against two teams irom Toronto. All semi-final and final games will be held on Saturday, January 15, _ with an awards ceremony to follow the final games. A general admission charge of $1.00 - will be charged and free parking will be provided. Jarvis Collegiate is located 'at' the corner of Jarvis and Wellesly Streets in Toronto. Both teams played strong hockey, and had many good scoring opportunities. However, the Rock-ets : couldn't get by the strong Whitby team. - In an exhibition game January 6, Oshawa Scugog Ladies A team defeated Port Perry Rock-ets by a 4 - 2 margin. The first period went scoreless, but Oshawa counted three times in the second period. Port Perry got goals in the third period from Linda Heayn and Lina - Belair, but couldn't catch Oshawa as they added another goal to make the final score 4 - 2. --On January 8, the Rock- ets travelled to Little Britain and beat the home team by a 6 - 1 score. Lina Belair led the Rock-ets. with three goals, while Lina Heayn had Two, and Connie Thayer a singleton. A fight broke in the second period, and tempers continued to flare throughout the third period with the game finally ending in "swinging" style. For the Kings, / it was one of the most ex- citing games, of the season, . with lots of Tough action, fast skating, and several goals. p In the first 'period, the Kings outshot Stouffville by a wide margin, but came out on the low end of the score "sheet, 4-1; Kings' loan goal in this period 'came from D. Bourgeois. In the second period, D. Bourgeois scored his second goal of the game and B. Young added one to cut Stouffville"s lead = to 5-3. "Again, in the middle frame, Kings outshot Stouffville. The Kings took over inthe third period, scoring three Beare Bantams Bea - Take 3-1 Game From Stouffville On December 30, Beare Motor Bantams handed Stouffville its first loss of the season by a 3-1 margin. The game was played in Stouff- ville. The victory was especially sweet for Port Perry as several players were unable . to make the game due to bad Brian. Campbell, - weather. Gord Scott, and Larry Page were the marksmen for Port Perry. On January 5, Beare Motor Bantams hosted Newcastle and handed the visitors a 4-1 loss. Richard Goris notched * two goals for the winners, with single tallies by Rick Taylor and Jim Phoenix. Jim Phoenix and Doug Christie both had numerous scoring opportunities = but were = foiled by the out- standing play of Newcastle netminder. Next: home: game for the the "Bantams will be 7:30 p.m. on January 12, with Stouffville providing the opposition. goals to go ahead 6 - 5. On January 9, West Rouge visited Port Perry and. the Kings ran over them to the tune of 7-2. Adamson scored twice in the first period as the Kings opened a 2-0 lead. Adamson got his hat trick with a goal in the second period as Kings built a 5-1 lead after forty minutes. McCartney and Campbell also scored in the middle period. West Rouge got one goal in this-period. ~ 5 In the final period, Cochrane and Lefort com- pleted the scoring for the Kings, and West Rouge got its second goal of the game. Although outscored 7-2 by the Kings, West Rouge managed to outshoot the home team in both the second and third periods. Next Sunday at 7:00 p.m. Kings will play -host, to Stouffville. Addition to rec. centre soon complete Construction of an addition to the Cartwright Recreation Centre is now more than half finished, with the final. completion date set for about a month from now. The $25,500 --project will include a washroom, Kkit- chen, cloak room and council meeting room. The money was raised by Cartwright Township, with 25 percent of the cost being met by a grant from the Department of Agriculture and Food under the Community.
