One is Phil Goreski Trophy for winning Lakeshore Midget C division, and the other i~ "ary McLeod Trophy for runnersupinall-Ontario C Division. Lambeth Midgets beat Port Perry in the finals. In an exciting, thrilling hockey game that typified the action of the entire series, Kincardine Legion Bantams edged Beare Motor Bantams 4 - 3 in Kincardine Friday night to win the C Division All-Ontario Championship two games to one with two games tied. : Presenting the trophy after _the game to_the Kincardine captain, OMHA president Wes Oswald called the series one of the most exciting he had ever seen, and said that both clubs rightly deserved being called the best Bantam teams in their -division---in Ontario. He said that after --the brand of hockey dis- played by both 'teams throughout the series, it was too bad there had to be a loser. Anyone who followed the series couldnt help but agree. . In the game Friday night, Kincardine opened the scor- ing midway through the first period with a flukey goal that- bounced into the net off a Port Perry player. With his team shorthanded late in the first period, Port Perry goalie Barry Heard was called on to make a couple of good stops. At the sixteen-minute mark of the second period, Kincardine went ahead 2 - 0 on another '"'soft" goal. Port - Perry goalie seemed to have the shot blocked, but the puck slipped under him into the net.- : After two periods, territ- orial play had been just about even, although Kincardine -- seemed to have had the better scoring opportunities. - Just as the buzzer was sounding to end the second period, Olsen scored for Port Perry ona hard slap-shot, but , the goal was not allowed. Early in the third. period, Port Perry scored on a nifty goal by John Scott. He moved in alone from the left side, deked the Kincardine goalie with a good fake, and slipped the puck into the net. A couple of minutes later Kincardine made it3-1ona breakaway. With Port Perry defense caught up ice, Nisbitt took a pass at centre, skated in alone and beat Port Perry goalie cleanly. At the -sixteen-minute "mark Kincardine madeit 4 - 1 "with a goal from a scramble in front of the net. four minutes left in the game, Port Perry staged a come- back with Jim Phoenix scoring. A minute later, Gord Scott took a pass-out from Doug Christie and put the puck home to makeit 4-3. In the final minute Port Perry coach Larry Lee lifted his net-minder for an extra attacker, but Kincardine held on to gain the victory. One deciding factor was that Kincardine seemed to be able to move the puck out of its own zone with fast passes to wingers in position. Kin- cardine goalie was a stand- out, blocking many hard shots. In the third period, he : caught a hard blast from Tom Olsen on the face-mask. The shot flattened him, but ~ after medical attention for a cut near his ear, he was back in-the game. League. © The girls gained this honour by downing the Little Britain Jet-Sets in two straight play-off gamers, In the first game, played March 28 of the best-of-three series Rock-ets defeated the Jet-Sets handily by a score of 9 - 3. Goal scoring in this game was divided among the following players: Lena Belair, Betty Faber, Carol Bond, Lynda Heayn and Chris Vokins. Rock-ets gained the trophy with a 4 - 2 victory over the opposition in the second game of the series. Thiswas a very close game, with Rock- ets hanging on to a slim one goal lead right up until the final minute when Lynda Heayn'scored fo put the game out of reach. Susan Bond's work in the Rock-et nets was instru- mental inkeeping the team in the game. Team captain Lynda Heayn notched a pair of goals, while Wendy Part- ' Bantams lose to Kincardine strength to advantage. For Kincardine, it was a team effort. They skated well, played positional hoc- key, got a few breaks, and some good goal-tending. Both teams deserve - praise for excellent hockey in a series that was decided by a single goal in the final game.
