Ee. Chip wagon (continued nothing in the zoning by-law covering mobile chip wagons. (The lots where Mr. Arsenault proposed to locate _are zoned .C-3).. Reeve Robert Kenny told Mr. Arsenault. that in his opinion the only place in the ; Village that zoning regula- tions would allow a chip wagon would be in the park, and since there already is a chip wagop operating there. .in the summer months, the Village would not want two in the one area. Councillor Gerald Jack- man said his concern would be for the permanent rest- aurant establishments that pay 'healthy taxes." Mr. Arsenault countered saying "that's competition. If I make a better hamburger, the customers vill come to me." . PALIN operator "Sure," replied Mr. Jackman, "If you can sell them cheaper." Mr. Jack- man checked the amount of taxes paid by one restaurant ..in-Port Perry-and the figure was about fifteen times higher than the licence fee . paid to operate a mobile chip wagon, Citing reasons why he thought Council should grant him the licence, Mr. Arse- nault said he would employ two persons to work in the chip wagon, and also said his vehicle would meet all stand- ards of the medical health officer. He also said he felt he was being denied permission simply because he was "just a little operator." Mr. Arsenault was not happy with the decision, and stated he'd be to Council again... 35°F Choose any item for every $40.00 purchase of the following CO-OP Motor Oils or Greases. ® HD7 Motor Oil in single grades for (co-op) seasonal changes and multi grades for all year driving. These are _increased employee benefit and salary costs, and grow- ing interest charges on board debts. . When the budget figures were released, some trustees expressed concern over the fact that education costs have gone up continually since 1969, and one of these was trustee Gord Goode of Port Perry. Mr. Goode said later that he "is very much opposed to ~ therising cost in education," and cited the fact that since the formation of the County Board jn 1969, education costs in this County have - risen nearly 50 percent. He said last year, teacher - _salary increases amounted to nearly $6 million. Mr. Goode also questioned the need for what he called the many highly paid consultants between principals and the director of education. "And I'm very much opposed to the teacher mi " which he termed as "e sive baby-sitting," amounted to $486,000 last a year in the County. He also expressed concern about the building of more permanent structures, when -the. birth' rate -is- declining; --- and asked whether these new schools would be filled in the coming years. _And finally, despite the rising costs, Mr. Goode said he personally does not think the system is turning out as good a graduate as it could be, or as it was in the past.
