At the August 15 meetings of council, Deputy Reeve John Godwin asked the procedure be examined and amended, "as we seem to be wasting one heck of a lot of time". He suggested the proce- dure could be streamlined, with some of the readings possibly dropped and the requests for permission to enter and read the bylaws either abandoned entirely or cut to one for each new introduction. The committee on county matters, which had consid- ered the proposal since the last meeting, recommended Tuesday that no change be made, since "present enact- ment" and "provides mem- bers with several opportun- ities to express their views'. The majority of council members agreed with the committee recommendation however, and voted to main- tain the three readings. PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Sept. 27, 1972-17 Large crowd at Showcase Approximately 5,000. visi- tors attended the Autumn Showcase at the Kemptville College of Agricultural Technology on Sunday, Sept- ember 17, to learn more about modern agriculture as well as to see demon- strations and displays in home economics. The field crops tours featured pest and weed control, variety test plots, levels of fertilization and new crops such as rapeseed production. "Nature's pro- vided a comparison between plots using only natural fertilizer and no commercial 10g, sprays with scientifically produced crops. Displays traced products such as corn, soybeans and rapeseed from the field through processing to the consumer, Dairy cows, calves and dairy-beef calves and the hatching of ducks were the centre of attention in the livestock area. On the main campus the Farm Management and Engneering Divisions com- bined to tell the story of milk production from "feed to food" for the consumer and the cots involved. Visitors also saw cheese being made, maple candy being produced, as well as food demonstrations by stu- dents. ' Sewing, gourmet foods and meal management dis- plays were seen by many in the home economics Area. Large quantities of College produce such. as apples, cheese and milk were en- joyed by the many guests.
