Midgets tie Flamingos score second victory, Newcastle Grant Menzies Hornets travelled to Newcastle on Thursday, November 9 and played to a four all tie. The first period the Hornets opened up a 3 goal lead with Litt Jeffrey and Bronson scoring before Newcastle scored their first to out the lead to 3 to 1 at the end of the period. The second period New- castle scored 3 unanswered goals to take the lead before Christie scored for the Hor- nets to tie the game at 4 each. The third period bot: teams played a close check- ing game and a result the game ended in a tie, Penal- ties in the game were the Hornets 5 and Newcastle 4. Hornets beat Uxbridge 4-1 On Monday night Grant Menzies Hornets played at home against Uxbridge and defeated them 4 to 1. The first period was score- : less as both teams choose to play a close checking game. The second period Litt open- ed the scoring for the Hornets with Jeffrey assisting then Bunson scored from Brain to take a 2 to 0 lead after two . periods. The third period Kydd scored for Uxbridge to cut the lead to 2 to 1 before Abraham scored with Rod Campbell and B. Campbell assisting then Christie scored with Jeffrey assisting to end the game. Finé goaltending by Phil Gilroy and a tremendous effort by the Port Perry defense, lead the way as the local boys built up an early 3 - 0 lead on goals by Dave Bourgeois, Neil McLaughlin and Bob Wineck. Bowmanville narrowed the margin on a goal by Neil Watson, only to have Bour- geois with*his second of the night regain their three goal margin, The visitors stormed to the attack in the second period scoring a quick goal by Bruce Skelton. The Flamin- gos seemed to be doomed as they proceeded to take back to back minor penalties giving Bowmanville a two man advantage in play. The defensive pair of Paul Curtis'and Randy Hall with Grant McLaughlin then turned back the determined efforts of the Bowmanville attackers. Phil Gilroy in the Port Perry net made several outstanding saves until the two local players returned to the ice, Randy Hall then capped off this fine perfor- mance with an unassisted goal. Bowmanville managed one more goal by Paul Forsey but the Flamingo's 'never were in trouble again and the victory enabled them to draw even with Bow- manville in the standings. The next game for the Flamingo Jrs. will be S day, November 19, 1972 when they travel to Penetang to Legion team drop three games The local Legion Pee Wees played good solid hockey last week and came up empty- handed. On Monday, November 6, West Rouge defeated them 7 - 1. Scott Wilbur scored the lone tally. The Legion team played a hard hitting game but little hard feeling devel- oped at the end of the game. Friday night in Port Per- ry, the team again played a hard hitting, fast skating type of hockey. Stouffville jumped into an early lead, 3 - 0. But in the second period the Legion team came right back and tied the game 3 - 3. Mike Healey was the leader in this game, scoring twice and assisting on another; Paul Gibson had ie other tally. Stouffville came out in the third period and scored two more goals. The Legion boys . finally woke up and checked Stouffville for the rest of the night. On Sunday afternoon, Ux- bridge handed the Legion- aires a 6 - 1 setback. Paul Gibson tallied the lone score for Port Perry. Mike Healey and Danny Taylor picked up the assists. On Wednesday evening the West Rouge Bantams came, to town but had to settle for a 5 - 2 defeat as the local boys continued their fine play. Dave: Horton opened the scoring for Port Perry with John and Gord Scott getting the assists. Ed Olsen scored his first of two goals and also added two assists for a fine night, for this outstanding young defenseman. Dave Horton with, his second and Phil Cochrane completed the' scoring. Bill Darden scored two fine goals for West Rouge but it wasn't enough as the Bantams kept the game under control until the end. Saturday, November 11, 1972 the Beare Motor Ban- tams travelled to the new Pickering arena to do battle with the local Bantams. Pickering showed much improvement over their ear- lier defeat by Port Perry, but just could not cope with the fine passing and skating of the league leaders and had to settle for a 7 - 0 defeat. °° Phil Cochrane lead the scoring with two goals, with _singlés going to Bill Bridge, Mark Jobb, Gord and John Scott and Sean Taylor with his first of * the season. Barry Heard again played a strong game in goal to earn the shutout.
