BE a " ec ----_ en ee iy "7 POSNER RY. Sra & Three million 'Holsteins registered North Star Three Million is the name of the three millionth pure bred Holstein registered in , Canada. A specially illuminated regis- tration certificate for this animal was presented to Allan Stewart of North Star Farms, Lyn, Ontario, by John Powell, Chief of Ex- tension for the Holstein- Friesian Association of Can- ada. at the annual banquet of the Leeds County Holstein Club held November 29 at Athens. In making the presentation Mr. Powell noted that the first Holstein came to Can- ada in 1881 and it was not until 67 years later, in. 1948, that the one millionth animal was registered. The two million mark was reached in 1962, a 14 year interval while the third million has been reached in ten years. While it was just a matter of chance which animal became the three millionth to be registered, Mr. Powell stated that no more for- tunate choice could have been made, since the North Star herd is one of the oldest in Canada, continuously op- erated by one family. The first pure bred Holstein was bought in 1899 by JW. Stewart, who was joined in the operation of the herd in 1926 by his son Allan. Allan in turn has been joined by his daughter Joan and her husband Ron McNeeley in the present operation of North Star. Cut calories, enjoy apples Are you counting calories, but craving desserts and between-meals snacks? Food specialists at the Ont- ario Food Council, Ministry of Agriculture and Food suggest apples for a satis- fying snack or dessert. Apples are a valuable addi- tion to a well-balanced diet. One medium apple has only 70 calories, and is composed largely of water (about 85 percent.) The rest is carbohydrate, that is, sugar, starch and fiber. The fiber in the apple provides bulk and satisfies hunger. While you're counting cal- ories, enjoy the crisp texture and delicate flavor of Ont- ario apples. INVEST NOW!
