The local Fire Brigade, sponsor of the Muscular Dystrophy fund raising campaign received two welcome contributions recently. Arthur Catton, reeve of Reach Township and an employee of Bell Telephone Company presented the firemen $100 on behalf of the Bell Employees Welfare Fund. Mr. Catton is seen at left in the picture. Presenting a cheque to Firechief Jack Cook in the amount of $27. is Mrs. Roberts who operates Ridgewview Snack Bar on Oshawa Road. She raised the money from selling tickets on a Christmas cake. With so much sickness in the area, our attendance was considerably down, with only thirteen ladies present. Mrs. Routley was in charge of the meeting. She opened the meting by read- ing a poem "Builders". Hymn 695 was sung. The scripture lesson was read by Miss Chrissie Meditation by the president "Blue Year'. Mrs. Hopkins led in prayer. "A New Year's Prayer' was read by Mrs. Routley. The offering was received. Several Christmas greetings and letters were read from former members and friends. The president reported that 33 Christmas cards had been sent from the class and 12 shut-in. boxes packed for the shut-ins. Mrs. Bryant gave a report ' of the nominating commit- 'tee. Hymn 571 "Standing at the Portal" was sung and the Lord's Prayer repeated Mrs. Edna McKlaren was in charge of the devotional portion of the evening and Mrs. Mary Tetlow read Scripture taken from 2nd Peter, Chapter 3. Marion London gave a reading "A Prayer for the New Year." and Mrs. Mc- Klaren closed the devotional with a prayer. The roll call was answered by ladies, the minutes of the last meeting were read and also an annual report was given. Mrs. Norma Crowell gave a Hospital report and the treasurer report was given. Mrs. Edna McKlaren sug- Hodson showed the slides of her trip to Mexico last year, Our meeting closed with the singing of "hymn 74. Mrs. Gardner closed with prayer. Lunch was served by the committee in charge. - Mrs. Lena Doble is spend-. ing a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Doble, Tor- onto. Mrs. Drew Leper and son, Ian from London, Ontario are spending a few days with her mother Mrs. E. Heron; while Mr. Heron is convales- cing in Oshawa General Hospital. New ideas were discussed for the New Year and decided to save pennies, making it a contest between two groups. A note of thanks was received from John Beckett and also from the. Hospital Auxiliary. ' A note written by Mrs. Ann Cornish was read to the ladies, this concerned the address given by Mr. Nor- man McKenzie at Harmony United Church on December 12th with the theme being Key 73. The business portion of the meeting was closed by singing hymn 500 'Take Time to be Holy."
