The staff as a whole, are courteous, efficient and have a very genuine concern for each of their patients. I don't believe that there is any place in the hospital where this is more appreciated by the patient than in the labour and delivery rooms. The visiting hours in the maternity ward are from 3 until 8 every day and we are fortunate enough to have a 'rooming-in' plan, if desired, in which allows new mothers to have their babies with them in their respective rooms. This privilege is greatly appreciated by the new parents and as far as I can determine, this system is not used by the Oshawa General Hospital or the Cottage Hospital in Ux- bridge. Our local hospital serves a very large area extending approximately 15 miles in each direction and a great majority of the gentlemen of the area are employed at General Motors in Oshawa and work both: day and evening shifts. If the pro- posed idea of sending expec- tant mothers to the Cottage Hospital, for instance, IS decided upon, please con- sider the INCONVENIENCE this increased mileage will cause- the husbands. It will be almost impossible for those living in outlying areas to visit their wives, if they are working the evening shift, as the visiting hours at the Cottage Hospital are from 2:30 - 8:00 and a good proportion of these men would have to leave for work at about 4:30.
