veo TIT © The "Head" U.C.W. will meet on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at the home of Mrs. Marie Clark in Port Perry. We understand Kathy Chambers group is planning a special "India" program. We were pleased to see a good attendance at "Grace" church on Sunday. Rev. Pogue informed us that Rev. Brown this week will ac- company his brother south for a winter vacation. During his absence Rev. Mark Reeves will conduct funerals and Rev. Pogue will be available for other services. Mr. Pogue's message for the children included a story from Communistic Bulgaria. During a Christian Church Service, the building was invaded by soldiers who tried'to tell the worshippers how foolish they were and requested a count of the participants which they fig- ured at 21. But an elderly . Scugog N man insisted that the num- ber was 22. His explanation was that Jesus was also present in their midst as He is in ours. With the adults, the pro- mised subject of "Aliena- tion" was studied and pre- sented. This is considered to be one of the major problems of our nature. Many stories of events come to mind such as the Montreal Police Force Strike, a young girl being stabbed to death in 3 onslaughts in 1964 in New York, last year a few Star reporters in Toronto dressed in old clothes and faked illness and collapsed, an Oshawa man took heart attack at shopping centre. In each case the people who suffered from violence or apparent natural causes were not shown any concern by witnessing strangers. In most every case people felt these victims are not a part Church service Sunday, 11:15 a.m. Rev. B.R. Pogue in charge. The U.C.W. ladies meeting will be Thursday, Feb, 1st, 2 p.m. 'at Fanny Stevens. Everyone welcome. On Saturday, the U.C.W. ladies served lunch to the Holstein Association men in the church. : Mr. and Mrs. Roy Dolson were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Earl McClean in Oshawa. Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Mitchell and Mr. and Mrs. L.B. Roberts were dinner guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. B.D. Hutchins and family in Oshawa. Mr. Lloyd McKee of Car- diff and Mr. Elwood McKee of Oshawa called on old friends in the neighbourhood on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Mitchell called on Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kerry Friday eve- ning in Port Perry. Miss Irma Dayman of Toronto spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Mrs. Ingram receives artistic oil painting Many friends of Mrs. E. Ingram who recently resigned from the posi- tion of Librarian at the local Library accepted the invitation and at- tended the "'Library Tea" in her honour Thursday, last week. Rev. Wm. Black, Past Chairman of the Library Board spoke briefly on behalf of the Board and showered Mrs. Ingram with warm complimnts for her excellent service during three decades. Speaking on behalf of Port Perry Council was Rev. Reg. Rose who extended appreciation for her services and offered wishes for a long and happy retirement. The climax of the afternoon was the pre- sentation of a fine, art- istic oil painting to Mrs. ews of our lives so why should we get involved. We have reached an age when we feel a need to fear all strangers.. The technological world has made a greater space be- tween people and turns people against one another. Now the questions is, "What can Christians do about it?" Tho' the church is not strong enough to force the idea that people should come first it should make every effort to remind the nation by speaking up. The church itself must be the redeeming element. We expect to have a special Service on February 11 but will let you know more about it next week. Mr. Dave Moore at Sunny- brook Hospital will be glad to hear from any of you. It has been a long time since August 30 and time drags when you cannot help your- self much. Ingram, the creation of a talented local lady, Mrs. Wm. Black.
