It was very fitting, inasmuch as Grand Master Bro. Glen Wanamaker and District Deputy Grand Master Bro. Ronald Wanamaker are both members of Warriner Lodge and Maybelle Rebekah Lodge. A sumptuous roast beef dinner was provided by the Rebekahs and judging by the after dinner remarks it was much enjoyed by all present. Bro. Ron Wanamaker, in his usual capable manner, conducted his role as M.C. with dignity and sincerity as - befitted the occasion. To him and his committee, we owe many thanks. Many dignitaries from distant parts also contributed tothe general success of the evening, including members of Grand Lodge both past and present. The formal introduction of our Grand Master was aptly made by Bro. Don Keeler. Grand Marshal of the Grand Lodge of Ontario. Many who have know Brother Glen for sometime are apt to take his messages as a matter of course, and are well aware of how he can gel a message across. However, this scribe, for one, would like to express how in his interpretation of Oddfellowship, he really ex- celled himself ih the mes- sage he presented. Many of the aims of our Order were presented to us, such as the Pilgrimage for Youth to the United Nations, our support of the Eye Bank and the Oddfellows Home at Barrie. In referring to some of these contributions by Oddfellowship, our Grand Master was able to impart much of his enthusiasm to all present. Greetings from the Re- bekah ~~ Assembly were brought by Sister Grace Love, Warden of the Rebekah Assembly, who is also a member of Maybelle Lodge. Greetings, also from Sovereign Grand Lodge were brought by Bro. Jack Calver, Past Grand Master. A fitting benediction by Bro. E, Grand Chaplain of the Grand Lodge of Ontario, brought the evening to a conclusion. In closing, I am sure that I express the appreciation of all Oddfellows and Rebekahs to Warriner and Maybelle lodges for their contribution, a very generous accolade to D.D.G.M. Bro. Ron Wana- maker and his officers and committee of Dist. 41, and a special thanks to our Grand Master for his excellent portrayal of Oddfellowship. Kingsview Norman Cafik supports NDP Last week the Liberal government presented a mo- tion to set up a committee to look into rising food costs. The New Democratic Party ammended the motion to force an interim report from the committee within three months. This is how Ontario M.P. Norman Cafik ex- plained his support for the N.D.P. ammendment, as recorded in Hansard. "I also intend to support the amendment put forward by the New Democratic Party which asks that this committee should make an interim report and bring forward recommendations for action within two months. I support that because I believe the problem is indeed urgent. I welcome that amendment and take great pleasure in stating I shall vote in favour of it when it is before the House." The City of Oshawa has hired 120 workers with $439,000 it received from the Federal Governments win- ter works program. The jobs are temporary and most of the workers are hired from off the welfare rolls. They get union wages and pay union dues but cannot be- come members of the union because they are not per- manent employees.
