'"'Something has to be done' said the reeve on the question of the Post Office. I feel that the old post office should be torn down and replaced as it has become obsolete. There are over 500 general delivery boxes and there should be no more then 250, there are over 50 people waiting for boxes and there is no place to put more; as a matter of a fact, I under- stand they are having trou- ble finding places to put more general delivery boxes. Howard Hall, a director of the C of C, said "If the Chamber feels strongly enough about tearing the post office down and building a new one they should send a letter to the Dept. of Public works and inform them of this, and also that the council should do the same." It was the general opinion of both council and the cham- ber that the old post office should be torn down and a new one built on the same location, as the present building does not function properly, and the location it is in now is the location it should remain in. Fe | Regional Government 100 attend informative meeting by David McCormack People in Cartwright Township have litle or no information on which to assess the implications of regional government on the area if the province's pro- posals, announced in Oshawa on December 18, are implemented. This came to light at a public meeting held in the Recreation Centre at Black- stock last Friday night, when almost 100 residents turned out to listen to the Citizens Input Committee. The Input organization which began in Port Hope and has spread across the United Counties since December, was invited to Blackstock by members of Cartwright Township Council. It was the aim of the meeting to provide the public with information concerning regional government. George Humphreys, chairman of Input, told the people that the meeting was Valentine Gift Saat SOTTO STSOOSTOSSSSS > part of the organization's effort to gather the opinions of the people throughout the United Counties and also to relay information about the proposal in return. Mr. Humphreys stressed that Input is not opposed to regional government, but is opposed to current proposal because of the manner in which it has been presented and because the people are being asked to accept some- thing about which they have (continued on page 18) Phone rates up continued service is worth the extra cost. If more than 50 percent of the people who reply are willing to pay an extra $13.80 a year in order to be able to call more places, the ex- tended service will be added and everyone will pay the increased rates whether they voted for it or not. So it is important that you fill out the questionaire and make sure your opinion counts. White making the an- nouncement to Reach Town- ship council Monday Mrs. M.
