AS cid ~ PortPerry basketball team vs strong Toronto entry The basketball team from Port Perry High School will try for its third exhibition tournament victory in as many weeks when it takes on the tough St. Basil's College team at Uxbridge Secondary School this Saturday. Two weeks ago coach Arend Dekker took his Port Perry team to the Cobourg tournament and earned an impressive victory. Last week the local team hosted its own exhibition tourna- ment and won handily. Port Perry and St. Basil's are considered the top teams in southern Ontario. Their meeting Saturday is planned House League Tyke Gulf 3, Emiel's Place 0. Allan Jones with 2 and Shaw scoring for Gulf. U.AW. 4, Kinsmen 0. Brierly with 2 and Horton with 2 for U.A.W. Novice " White Feather Farms and Lions battled to a 0 - 0 tie. Lake Scugog Lumber 6, Keith Real Estate 1. Alexan- der and Shaw with 2 each, Barr, McDonald with others as 'sort ol a main event to draw attraction to the Ux- bridge Secondary School's midget tournament, which will feature teams from Barrie, Stouffville, Oshawa, Whitby, Pickering, Port Perry and Uxbridge. Games will be played from 9 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. Most of the Midget teams are also con- sidered tops in their re- spective leagues so the tournament promoters ex- pect a high calibre of play all day. Saturday the CTC bantams- visited Woodville and were handed a 3 to 2 loss. Woodyille opened the scoring and Port was not able to catch up even though they pulled the goalie. Mike McQuade and John Kane did .the scoring for Port Perry. Sunday night in Bay Ridges, Port Perry Bantam On Saturday, February 13, the annual John Ballard Lumber Co. Ltd. Bonspiel was held at the Right John Ballard, Dot Lawr - Curling Rink. Sixteeen teams participated, five of the: teams were from Port Perry. the winners pictured B teams edged the Bay team 3 - 2 in a fast skating and hard hitting game. Goals for Port came from Stew Cochrane, Tim Ashbride and Steve Hawes. The Port boys seem to battle up the opposition throughout most of the game but were outshot 27 to 18. The other successful members are from left to right Robin Parish, Jack Chapman and Doug Holtby. Each year, Peel's sponsors the Port Perry Curling Club's Boxing Day Bonspiel. This. is the first bonspiel of the season and is limited to club members and friends. There were sixteen teams competing and with the calibre of play becoming keener each year, Ralph and his team are to be congratulated on their fine play.
