Handicraft Guild celebrates The Handicraft Guild held their regular meeting in the Presbyterian Church Hall on Wed., Feb. 14th with 26 members and 5 visitors pre- sent. The President, Mrs. Nap- les opened the meeting with the repeating of the Lord's Prayer in unison and ex- tended a warm welcome to all present. The treasurer's report was given by Marjorie Williams and the minutes of the pre- vious meeting were read by the Sec'y Melba Owen. Everyone enjoyed the film shown by Emiel of "Emiels Place". It took us to the home and Studio of Margaret and Ted Rowan, Rittermere, Vineland, show- ing the art of rug hooking. A splendid display of hook- ==--2|.0ne ed rugs shown at the United Church Vineland, sometime ago was much enjoyed by the group. I am sure after seeing this inspiring film, if you girls aren't doing some rug hooking right now, you will be shortly. Thank you Emiel. Ina DeYonge and Kay Smith presented the slate of officers for 1973-4 and Mrs. Hutton of Dunsford, in her efficient manner installed the new officers which are as follows: Pres. - Mrs. D. Ltd. A lovely flower arrange- ment was placed in the Hall by Kay Smith in loving memory of Catherine Mar- tyn who passed away Feb. 12th, 1972. Catharine was a valued member of our Guild. As usual on the browsing table were a number of beautiful handmade articles done by Guild Members. Valentine decorations and a birthday cake made and beautifully decorated by Margaret Pascoe adorned the tea table. Lunch conveners for March as follows - D. Naples and P. Hamilton. This meeting will be held at the Presbyterian Church Hall on March 14th. i A tasty lunch served by the hostesses brought to a PORT PERRY LTAP Hednesdny, Feb 71st, 1973 19 Kinsmen 2nd anniversary continued Hewson replied to Kin Larry Kendalls remarks saying "I feel that the Kinsmen Club is Canada's greatest service club." He said that the Kinsmen Club was started in Canada in 1920 and that it is an 'AH Canadian Club," with over 15,000 Kin mem- bers and 14,000 Kinette members. The district gov- ernor said that he was pleased to see so many clubs represented for the zone at this function, and reminiced of last years anniversary when a number of the members and guests were snowed in at Blackstock overnight. District Kinette Co-Ordin: ator, Dorothy Tyrrell wished the Kin and Kinette clubs a happy anniversary and the best of luck in present and future endeavours. In his address to the meeting, president Fred Canning, recalled being chartered two years ago in the Legion Hall by the Kinsmen Club of Oshawa. He 8th year close another enjoyable af- ternoon. He - spoke on how their club had met a few pitfalls in the beginning but had overcomé them and had become the better for it. "We now have 25 members, not many mere than when we started two years ago, but we are growing," he said. Fred then spoke about the Kinnette Club and what an asset they had been in some of the Kin projects and others that they had undertaken on their own. He then called on Doreen Kendall, president of the Port Perry Kinette Club to come forward and accept a lectern, hand made by her husband, as a gift to their ctub. Doreen Kendall thanked the Kinsmen for the gift and everyone for coming and said that it had been a year of fun and fullfillment. "We have grown in size and as individuals and have become better and more useful citizens through the work of the Kinettes," she said. Mrs. G. Langille presented a hand made banner to the Kinsmen on behalf of the Kinettes. After the business was over the tables were cleared from the hall and a dance rounded off the evening.
