- Scugog News On Wednesday evening of April 4, seventeen ladies met at the home of Mrs. Myrtle Manns for the "Head" U.C:W. We were pleased to see Beverley again and also to have Mrs. Lil Moore. The theme for Devotions was 'Joy' based on the Easter story. Mrs. Helen Redman read the Scripture from Matt 28: 1 - 10 which described the events when Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the sepulchre. Mrs. Clara Dowson offered a prayer and Mrs. Marilyn Tripp con- ducted the study on periods of special "Joy" especially - at Easter over the Risen Lord. During roll call we were requested to name the most, time-saving gadget in our kitchen. A word of appreciation for card received was expressed by Mrs.Ethel Redman. 19 forfeit calendars with the donations were turned in. There are still 7 out. They seemed to have created considerable discussion and fun. During business period it was learned we have quite a busy schedule in catering to 5 weddings, an Art show for April 11 (to-day), our U.C.W. 25th anniversary celebration (for which invitations have gone out). Several children from the Island took part in the Ice Carnival on Friday and Saturday nights. The Figure Skating Club is to be congratulated on putting on such a fine event and having it so well organized and having found so many willing hands to help where needed. All the skaters to did a very fine job. On Sunday evening Mrs. Ethel Redman was an honoured guest at a Birthday dinner party at Conway Gardens. The celebration was planned by the family of Mrs. Frank Bailey of Blackstock whose birthday it was. Those attending were of course husband, Frank, along with Mr. and Mrs. Allan Bailey and their 3 children, Mr. and Mrs. Hector Shortridge and son STLFEIOES (IAA K-18 34 Bill, all of Blackstock. We affectionately remember the 2 sisters as Jennie and Mae Leighton who lived with their parents about 40 years ago in the Island home presently occupied by Mr. and Mrs. O. Haugen at the 'Head'. Having moved to the Blackstock area the family retained many of the Island friendships and particularly with the Redmans. Fre- quently we have heard of their interest and involment in their community affiars. There were a few mis- quotes last week re your correspondent's recollect- ions and dates.
