ASHBURN NEWS There was an average attendance at morning wor- ship, at Burns Church on Sunday, April 1. Rev. Black's sermon was most inspiring, choosing as his sermon title, '"Trial and Arrest of Jesus." Mrs. Ernie Humphrey favoured us with a solo. The New Testament "lesson was read by Mrs. Wm. Hopkins, reading from Mark 15:1-15. On Tuesday evening a number of the Ashburn ladies attended the U.C.W. meeting at the Brooklin United Church. This was in the form of a dessert luncheon prior to the meeting. Mr. Murray Garvin, Leaskdale, was the guest speaker on Wednesday eve- ning, at the Women's Missionary Society Thank- Offering meeting held in the church. It was very encoura- ging to see such a good attendance. Black is on the sick list, and is at present confined to the Oshawa General Hospital. We wish for him a very speedy recovery. Coming events at the Ashburn Community Centre are as follows: Boy Scout Drive -- Saturday, April 14th, 9:30 a.m. Papers may be left at the Community Centre for pick-up. Keep in mind our "Come Home to Ashburn Day" on Sunday, May 27th from 2 - 5 p.m. Open House at the Centre. Antique display and collection of old photos and new ones too. Tea will be served. PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, April 11th, 1973 - 3 Uxbridge Ministerial Association has organized Marriage Course The Uxbridge Ministerial Association has organized a '""Marriage Course'" for young couples contempla- ting marriage in the near future and for those just recently married. The course will be given in Trinity United Church, Ux- bridge commencing Sunday, April 29th and continuing each Sunday during the month of May from 2-4 p.m. The purpose of this course is to assist young couples as they seek to make the transition from "single bles- sedness" to "married bliss." A very interesting course has been designed to cover some of the major concerns in marriage. " For instance, a doctor will discuss family planning and the importarice of a proper sex adjustment in marriage. He will also give some tips for maintaining a healthy family. A lawyer will cover the legal aspects of mar- riage, i.e. rights and respon- sibilities within marriage, the signing of contracts, paying debts, making wills, succession rights, the buying of property etc. A financial expert will discuss family finances, insurance, instalment pur- chasing, major purchases and give some tips for getting the most for one's money. Still another facet to be covered is that of developing good communication pat- terns within marriage. A family counsellor will handle this area of concern and cover much of what is involved in 'remaining' an. interesting person to be with". He will also offer some aids in developing a person's ability to communi- cate with the other partner in APRIL SHOW R OF A.W.
