That happened last week when Mr. Burt Dowson and Mr. Vince Oto passed away. Both had lived in the village until quite recently and both had had long illnesses. Our former minister Rev. L. Critch was called upon to conduct the funeral services on Wednes- day and Thursday. Floral tributes for both men dec- orated the church on Sunday morning. We extend sym- pathy to their families. The U.C.W.'s meeting on Wednesday evening was in charge of unit 2 who took as their theme "Take Time." All devotional numbers including the topic by Mrs. B. Wanamaker, a skit by Mrs. Hutchison and Mrs. Venner and a reading by Mrs. R. Puckrin had' the same title. Mrs. Tobin occu- pied the chair. Mrs. Fishley read the scripture and Mrs. Venner had the prayer. After the long holiday the reports had to be brought up to date. The group are still solvent but must shell out for re-decorating the manse and also for the purchase of a new stove for the church kitchen. With this in mind the ladies revised their schedule of prices for meals served -- upward mostly. Church services next Sunday will be in charge of the U.C.W. but the speaker will be a man -- Glenn Wanamaker of Port Perry. The ladies served lunch at Nick Newlands farm sale on Thursday and will be doing the same for the Bill Stones on October 4. - It's party time again. The Nodwells and Mrs. Boe had an anniversary party for Mr. and Mrs. Heywood Short on Saturday evening combined with an ahead-of- time party for Bert Wana- maker whose birthday comes next Wednesday. Then on Sunday evening the Nodwells had a gather- ing to honour Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Short who were 25, years married on Tuesday, Sept. 11. There were about a dozen guests mostly rela- tives of the Shorts. Charlie and Barbara stayed quietly at home on their anniver- sary. but had Mrs. M. Stone as supper guest that night. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Stur- man were celebrating on Saturday too. It was their 14th anniversary. Many congratulations. During a group committee meeting at the scout hall on Sunday the 16th, Mrs. Pat Boyd accepted the position, and was charged with the responsibility of 'Akela' of "A" Pack, replacing Mr. George Hall, who recently resigned. Best wishes to Pat, who has taken on a challenge of significant por- portion, and many thanks to George for his many years of dutiful service. Consideration is being given to starting a "Beaver Pack" in Port Perry. This would be an organization for boys in the 5 to 7 years of age bracket. Meetings would be held at the Scout Hall on an afternoon, following school. This would be a great starting point, for young boys planning on be- coming cubs and scouts. Anyone interested in lead- ership, assistant Leader- ship or any parents with boys of this age, please call The annual meeting will be held at the scout hall on October 28, 1973. Please make an effort to attend if you have an interest in the Scout movement. : Assistant leaders are des- perately required to help with both the Scouts and one Cub Pack.
