Cawker Approximately one hundred members and visi- tors attended the Install- ation Cremonies of Blue Ray Chapter, yNo. 238, Order of the Eastern Star, on the evening of October 11th, held in the Oddfellow Rebekah Hall, Ontario Street, Port Perry, to honour the newly elected Worthy Matron Sister Betsy Staniland of Blackstock, and her staff of officers for 1973 - 74. Many Chapters were rep- resented and Worthy Matron Sister Avelyn Williams of Nestleton, welcome a num- ber of Past District Deputy Grand Matrons, Presiding Matrons & Patrons, Past Matrons and Patrons to the east. Blue Ray Members were warmly welcomed by Worthy Patron Brother Bill Pearson. The Installation ceremon- ies were conducted in a highly efficient manner, and during the evening Sister Nellie Pring of Bowman- ville, thrilled those present with her lovely vocal solos, chosen especially for the occasion. Her able accomp- anist was Sister Winnifred Newton of Whitby. After completion of the Installation ceremonies, the newly installed Worthy Matron Sister Betsy Stani- land had a pleasant task to perform, the retiring Matron Sister Avelyn Williams and retiring Patron Brother Bill Pear- son were invited to the East to receive their past officers jewels. Sister Phyllis Fallis of Bowmanville, daughter of Sister Avelyn had the honour of pinning the jewel on her mother and Sister Mary Pearson, wife of Brother Bill pinned the jewel on her husband. After the meeting closed, members and friends renewed old friendships, while enjoying the bountiful Buffet Luncheon, arranged by convener Sister Marjo- rie Edwards and her committee. concluding a very successful and satis- fying evening for Blue Ray. " Blue Ray Chapter installs new officers As our new Worthy Matron Sister Betsy Stani- land assumes the responsi- bilities of her office for the coming term, we wish for her a fine year of achieve- ment, promoting the interests of our beloved Eastern Star. With the co- operation and assistance of the officers and members, we know she will make a valuable contribution to the organization. Seagrave and Area news At the community level nothing much happened here during the week but we have collected a few per- sonals. It seems pretty certain that Mr. and s. Don . Hunter will be staying with us. Their new home has a cellar now. Our hospital news is that Mrs. Davis still remains there but is improving. Miss Debbie Newman made a short hospital visit on Friday to get rid of her tonsils and Miss Claudette Roberge is still there following surgery. Burial was at Groveside cemetery, Brooklin. Miss Peggy Rankin of West Hill spent the weekend with her friend, the Whyte family. Mr. and Mrs. Venner are off again. This time they are spending a few days in Owen Sound with Mr. Venner's relatives. After items on previous weeks it won't surprise any- one to learn that Mr. and Mrs. Tobin and Mr. and Mrs. Reg Abraham were at Orono United Church on Saturday attending the marriage of their neice Miss Bonnie Bridgea and Mr. Ken McCracken. The Wanamaker news is that Mr.a nd Mrs. Walter Webb of Haliburton spent Tuesday with B.L. and his wife. On Sunday their callers were Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Snyder of Scugog and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Mark of Toronto. The "Man Who Cares" with his wife and family of Port Perry spent Friday evening at the Belair home. DEERE Markham to visit Mr. and Mrs. Tobin. Mrs. Phyllis Wray reports that her aunt Mrs. Symmons of Bowmanville has re- turned home after 2 weeks with the Wray family and that Mr.and Mrs. E. Chirry and sons of Tottenham, Mrs. Burgess of Claremont and Mrs. Lucknow of Uxbridge all called there on Saturday. Right now (Monday night) Mrs. Cliff Short and Miss Shirley are attending a shower for Miss Janice Twiner at the Gary Twiner home in Uxbridge. Pinedale anniversary attracted all of 8 persons from Seagrave. Some others were at Pleasant Pt. in the afternoon. There was no preaching service here but we did have a noisy S.S. session. The tykes who get their names in the paper this week for birthday offerings are Debra Welland and Sonya Whyte. Regular service next Sunday. » Port Perry Stat MASTER °* 16% * 24% PORT PERRY STAR - Wednesday. oct: Hospital Auxiliary Annual meeting Monday, The October meeting was held at the hospital on October 15th with 22 mem- bers present, also Hospital Administrator James VanCamp. . The president, Eleanor Davidson, opened the meeting with a reading en- titled 'Happiness." The treasurer's report showed a net balance of $1,602.35. . There was a short discussion of the Annual Dance and the success it had been. Also, a report of the Jewellery demonstration held the previous week and although as yet, no complete financial report, it always was extremely well suppor- ted, with all money made going into Hospital Auxiliary funds in its endeavour to help the Board in every way possible. The Bootee Convenor reported gifts of bootees to 6 girls and 3 boys during the last month. The Tuck Shop Volunteer Convenor reported the Tuck Shop was staffed until November. The Doll Draw Committee reported they had the licence for the Draw, had contacted Emmerson's re displays of dolls and asked everyone to note the date for the Santa Claus parade and Doll Draw have been moved up one week to the first Saturday in December. For any members not present at the meeting, and wanting tickets to sell on the Draw please contact Joanne Huston 985 - 2807. Mr. J. VanCamp reported the completion of the paving of parking lot, and told us |\MASTER Dairy Feed Nov. 19 | the Board were hoping to do some landscaping with trees being planted. We are delighted to report we still have two candy- stripers with us, working on Mondays and Saturdays. Would all members of the Auxiliary, and any other interested persons, note that the Annual meeting will be held in the Municipal Hall, Nov. 19, at 2 p.m. Whether you are a member or not do try and attend and find out what your Hospital Auxiliary is actively engaged in. Mary Cannon, Ilean Pugh and Jeanne Elliot will look after the trays for Christmas.
