I enjoyed it. To me the humbug cries of those anti enterprise fanatics who scream every year about Christmas becoming too commercialized, and who cry great crocodile tears over the fact that businessmen make a profit out of the day are just noise pollutants. This is a special Christmas edition of the PORT PERRY STAR. My boss made a profit on this paper so he could pay me a decent salary so | could blow next months pay on my family so some other businessman in town could make a profit from my gifts so he could pay his employees, and so on. ' That is the way free enterprise works. Everyone makes a profit off everyone else and we all eat. Christmas is a good time to celebrate that system. 'Free enterprise is basically Christian, which explains why Communist and Socialist. governments always see the destruction of the church as their first priority. It is difficult for a > government to take over all business so the profits all go into the pockets of politicians and everyone becomes the servant or slave of government when you have churches around preaching the true Christmas message. The Bible says that when Jesus was born there went out a decree from Caesar that all the world should be taxed. That is why we have Christmas. One of the reasons Christ came was to free us from the slavery of unjust taxation and Roman style dictatorship. . "'Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall" set you free," he explained of his purpose. - Before | get a truckload (again) of mail from preachers let me acknowledge that the real, and most important, thing man needs to be free from is sin. . But | believe there were other basic freedoms Jesus wanted us to enjoy. Like the freedom to own our own home or car or business, and to make a profit from the business. The freedom to work for a living at the job of our choosing and then blow our entire pay on people we love. The freedom to buy and sell in a free market . place without Roman soldiers looking over our shoulders. It is the treedom season. a Quite a number of ladies- MERRY CHRISTMAS Conway Gardens -- Tavern ~ / @ WILL BE CLOSED eo DECEMBER 24th, 25. 26th and DECEMBER 31st "Merry Christmas to all" SEE YOU JANUARY 1st, 1974 FOR OUR TRADITIONAL DINNER SERVED FROM 4:00 P.M. 10 8:00 P.M. © BY RESERVATION ONLY eo Croxall (formerly Stella Maude Gregg.
