Le Flamingos blank Sutton 4-0 The first half of the game was closely played with the Port boys having a little edge in the play, It wasn't until the 13 minute mark in the second period that Camapyola assisted by Hadden was able to put the Flamingos on the score sheet. The third period was all Port Perry as they scored 3 goals and should of had more. At the 4:30 mark, Aldred scored unassisted and at the 6:40 mark, Bourgeois scored with Jack- son assisting. The final goal was scored by Hill "with Campbell and Aldred assis- ting. Ken Davidson played in goal to pick up the shut out. Ken did not have a lot to do but came up with some real good saves. There were only 5 penal- ties in the game with Port getting 3 and Sutton 2. The Flamingos next home game will be played in Port Perry next Sunday night against Frankford Hushies at 8:15. They travel to Ux- bridge on Wednesday night to play an exhibition game against Kingston Voyageurs and then play Lindsay at Lindsay on Friday night. Steve Tumor - Lind. .. 25 B. Wayne Cordingley - Ken. Davidson - Port Perry - 4.50, Swiss teams hold more practices Minor hockey has a history of only four years in the Swiss town of Wallisellen, but great strides have 'been taken in establishing it as a major sport. Jorg Huber, manager of the Wallisellen Hockey Club, explained the development of hockey. Seven years ago the club was formed, with approximately 70 members. In the first three years only senior hockey was played with ~~ Wallisellen teams against . other towns and cities in the area, Four years ago the minor hockey system was started, when an artificial open-air rink was built in the town. Thus the players on the touring midget team have only been skating four years. This puts them four years behind their Canadian counterparts. There are 500 members in the club now and 90 boys playing hockey in the Junior, Midget and Bantam catego- ries, that represent the town in a kind of all-star league. There are seven teams in the grouping and the Midgets LAKE SCUGOG HOCKEY LEAGUE GPW L TPis Bethany... 1511 3 1 23 . The children below Midget age have been engaged in a program similar to power skating. The eight-year olds have one training session a week and play:about eight-or nine what we would call house league games through the winter. Nothing comparable to the gruelling schedule that minor teams have in Canada. Even the all-star team practices more than it plays in league games. The club also sponsors a men's team that plays in the Swiss first division. Mr. 'Huber 'said that than league games hockey received a large boost when artificial rinks were built in about a dozen villages in and Zurich. The coaching expertise has been provided by Canadians = and Czechs through clinics. Mr. Huber explained that hockey could never become - as widespread in Switzer- - land as it is in Canada, . because there are too many competing sports. The mumber one game there is soccer, with activities such as swimming and Boy Scouts «competing for the boys' time and energy in the winter months.
